"We have very mixed feelings about this resort. The location was very nice, right on the water, with a ladder to enter and exit the ocean. There is no beach, but we prefer to swim in the ocean and pools without dealing with sand, so this was very nice. The pools are large and well kept. The grounds are also fairly well kept. There are some maintenance issues. Some of the public bathrooms were not kept clean. A soap dispenser in one bathroom was empty the whole time we were there.
But, by far the most disappointing aspect was the food. The buffet food was terrible. Rice, beans, and meat is a national dish, and they couldn't even do that correctly. The food was dry, over cooked, and extremely salty. With many, many dishes to choose, from we did find 3 or 4 that were good, but there is no excuse for the majority of the food being so bad. I'm talking about spitting the food out of your mouth bad. The head chef asked me how the food was and I told him, it was no good. He acted like it was the best they could do and shrugged off the complaint.
There are 3 other restaurants. A Japanese place that requires you pay for the food. It was not good. Actually, the sushi was poor. 2 other restaurants are okay, with very limited menus, but the reservations are completely booked well before noon each day.
We had an upgraded, ocean view room that was very nice. However, the hot water did not work at times.
If you cannot afford a nicer place, this is a good choice. Just be prepared."
