A town with a thousand years of history, famous for the footwear made there. A holiday in Arnedo will give you the chance to discover Cidacos Valley with its unparalleled natural surroundings.

On the banks of the River Cidacos, Arnedo is one of the most prosperous places in the La Rioja region, and the history of the town, famous for its footwear, dates back to Neolithic times. Its name comes from the Latin term “Arenetum”, related to the Spanish word “arena”, meaning sand, is a clear reference to the type of land on which the town is built.

Thanks to our wide range of cheap trips to Arnedo, you’ll be able to explore the area’s past thanks to the Celtiberian archaeological sites, such as that of San Miguel. One of the most emblematic traits of Arnedo, though, is the sandstone that has given way to caves, such as the cave of the Hundred Pillars, a maze of galleries inside the rock.

Arnedo’s old quarter also offers up examples of its rich heritage. Presiding over the town, you’ll see Arnedo Castle, a fortification of Arab origin, while the Puerta del Cinto gate is the last remnants of the old walls that protected Arnedo during the Middle Ages.

All this and more await if you book one of our package deals to Arnedo. If you feel like going on a little excursion, you can go visit the monastery of Vico. Legend has it that the Virgin of Vico appeared to Kan of Vico here in the year 1045. Later, in the 15th century, the monastery was founded, which underwent a golden age during the 17th century.

If you’re going on a trip to Arnedo, you should know that the nearest bus station is Calahorra. From there, you’ll find connections by train and bus with other provincial capitals. If you choose to go by car, Arnedo is about 30 miles from Logroño.

Don’t miss out on your chance to discover this unique heritage as you try some delicious fardelejos, a sweet pastry of Arab origin that is typical of cuisine in La Rioja in general, and of Arnedo in particular. Of course, you mustn’t forget you’re in La Rioja, wine country, so a taste of some of the local varieties is a must. Cheers!
