![Old Manor House site, Topcliffe Known as Manor Hills or Cock Lodge, this is the site of a medieval manor house belonging to the Percys. The view shows the outer ditch and bank in the foreground with the inner ditch [moat] and bank beyond. The conical mound was the site of a windmill. The manor is thought to have been erected in the 13th century and was described as 'ruinous' in a survey of the estate in 1577. Jen on the front desk was so welcoming and helpful. Lovely room and stay. Only thing that let it down was breakfast. Not much choice hot food and it was cold.
