Come to Baiona and discover a typical coastal town of the Rías Baixas: charisma and elegance combined with the traditional style of fishing villages.

On your holidays in Baiona you’ll discover a beautiful, historical town, the first in Europe to receive news of the discovery of the Americas in 1493, with the arrival of Columbus’ ship, the Pinta. Relive this great moment in history thanks to the replica, which was built to celebrate the 500th anniversary of the discovery of the Americas, full of reproductions from the time of Columbus, explanatory panels and interactive games.

The old quarter of Baiona was officially declared a site of Historical-Artistic Interest in 1993, and is made up of narrow, cobbled streets, and low stone or granite buildings with arcades. Full of small churches and homes of the local nobility, these streets are perfect for enjoying the pleasant scent of the sea.

The town’s seaside promenade is one of the most attractive in the Rías Baixas area. Admire the bay and the white glazed galleries of the buildings behind you, which are typical of the Galician coast. Stop off to enjoy the town’s bars and restaurants, where you’ll find examples of the wonderful local cuisine, rich in seafood, such as octopus and shellfish, washed down with some Albariño wine.

With our cheap trips to Baiona, you can visit the Monterreal peninsula, where you’ll find the Parador de Conde de Gondomar. A mix between a medieval fortress and a Galician palace, its walls from the 14th century were built by the King of Castile due to problems with the Portuguese king. Admire the breathtaking subset over the estuary from its viewpoint. At Punta Sansón, you’ll find the Virgen de la Roca. Measuring some 15 metres high, the “virgin of the rock” has a viewpoint on her right hand in the shape of a ship.

Purchase one of our package deals to Baiona to visit in the first weekend in March and enjoy A Arribada, a festival of International Tourist Interest that celebrates the arrival of the Pinta to Baiona. The streets are filled with musicians and jugglers, performances, arts and crafts and typical food, and locals and visitors alike dress in clothing of the time.

What more could you ask for to have an idyllic holiday? Book a flight and hotel to Baiona and enjoy!

The apartment was fine, big and close to the centre of the city. The only thing that wasn't fine was the temperature in the apartment: we couldn't fix it manually and it was cold the whole time.

It's very pretty in the old town and very busy at night. A walk round the Parador is a must.
