"The staff was very friendly. The room was clean and very pleasant. I loved our host dog, Bear. He was so sweet. I really enjoyed our stay. Great amenities. Nice back area that is family friendly."

"This place is a hidden gem. Perfect location for someone who no longer wants to camp but enjoys the great outdoors. Very clean, nice staff, beautiful surroundings on the river with seating, firepits, grills. Will stay here again."

Desolation Hotel Hope Valley

"We were here maybe 15 yrs. ago and the rooms were definitely more rustic. The updated rooms are simple, clean and cozy. The full and efficient kitchen was fine to make a nice dinner. The resort was winding down for the season and staff minimal and in late September the restaurant was closed so it was best to p/u food for breakfast and dinner. Minimal problems included the thermostatically controlled small gas fireplace that was somewhat erratic; sometimes the fan was too noisy at night. During the day the traffic noise made it difficult to enjoy the beautiful grounds, but quiet at night. Overall worth the stay to enjoy beautiful Hope Valley and trails on the property!"

"The room was clean but very small. There was nothing open in the Kirkwood area, no ice available. We thought we would be staying in the main building. Overall, it was a good place to sleep."

"The host lives above the guest's room and sound seems to travel fairly easy around the house. Therefore footsteps and other sounds are easily over heard during the day. Otherwise a beautiful place in a beautiful location."
