"Pub was dated, and our room had a shower/toilet in a pod, so read the small print when booking. The pod was extremely small with little room to manoeuvre and the extractor fan did not work. Also music could be heard in our room from downstairs. The positive is the shower was warm, the staff extremely friendly and the breakfast good. Also the local clientele were warm, friendly and welcoming"

"I stayed for one night following a long hike along Hadrian's Wall. Beautifully located close to the wall, but far away enough to feel extra secluded and peaceful. The host couldn't have been more helpful, and the breakfast superb. Comfortable bed, hot shower/bath and lovely little touches in the room. Will most definitely return."

"The castle view room was lovely...very spacious, nice bathroom and the bed was a bit small but comfortable enough. Our evening meal in the restaurant was quite pricey but we thoroughly enjoyed it. Breakfast was equally excellent. We loved hearing about the history of the castle with the complimentary tour...great idea! We visited as a couple to celebrate my partner's birthday and were not disappointed thank you!"

"The staff were friendly and the hotel is in a great spot if you want to take a dip in the river - you can do that directly from the hotel garden/outdoor seating area. Our room was clean and in a quiet part of the building. There is no air conditioning but a fan was provided, which helped. Would be happy to stay again."
