This is an attractive and traditional accommodation, with the added touches of delicious home made(and grown) food by Marianne, the host.
Although a mile or two outside Barnstaple, the scenic road to town takes only 12 minutes to travel, through rolling green hills. I didn't see any local buses go by.
As there are few restaurants nearby, and Marianne doesn't provide evening meals, you may need to eat, say, in town.
Spotlessly clean room. Comfortable beds. Front bedrooms are a bit noisy as the property is on the main road, so had to sleep with the windows closed.
Parking was on site, but a bit awkward especially if other drivers did not park in the marked spaces.
Breakfast was ok, but a very strange system of ticking of choice of food on a blackboard, which was not very user friendly. Limited choice (e.g. only orange juice and only one cereal, only berries for fruit choice) and nothing left out to help yourself. I would say overall, it is a good place to stay, but breakfast was a bit of a let down.
It was a little bit further out of Barnstaple than expected, but it only took 10 minutes to get into town and the location was good for local beauty spots.
We had a very comfortable bed and lovely breakfast at The Spinney for our 2 night stay. It is an interesting old building detailed by Marie-Ann in the guest information book, and has a garden where one can sit and enjoy the views. Our room was well equipped with tea tray etc and Marie - Ann's delicious home made biscuits. We would certainly recommend this place to friends.
A very pleasant Country Guest house made exceptional by the host’s personal attention and charming personality. She went out of her way to ensure we were comfortable and to provide explicit instructions and information on local attractions and places to eat.
It's a quirky property with a lot of character and few level floors! Very welcoming host, good food, decent sized rooms and comfy bed. We would definitely return here if we're in the area again.
