If you enjoy nature and medieval architecture, this Catalan town has more than a few surprises in store for you that will take your breath away.

Berga, with its excellent location beside the River Metge, among the mountain ranges that protect it from the north wind, has always been valued for its natural resources, in olden times, and nowadays for its considerable natural diversity. Look for trips to Berga and explore the town’s architectural heritage, which gives us an idea of just how important the town must have been in the Middle Ages.

They say the town was founded as a Roman settlement, although what we know for sure is that by the 8th century, it was being invaded by the Arab settlers. They're not the only ones to have left their mark on the lands of Berga. The French also captured the city in the 7th century, though the siege lasted only a year. In any case, each of the peoples that passed through left an indelible mark on the town’s history. Book one of our cheap trips to Berga and discover the troubles that hit the town in times past.

Of course, the history of Berga isn’t all drama and battles. Its periods of prosperity has given the old quarter such treasures as Església de Sant Joan, a church from the 13th century, or Església de Sant Quirze de Pedret, another church, which is accessed via a medieval bridge that remains in excellent condition. A little further out from the centre, you’ll definitely want to visit Castell de Sant Ferran, officially a Site of National Interest, and Santuari de Queralt, a shrine at an altitude of 1200 metres.

If you're into hiking and nature then you're sure to find package deals to Berga that you won’t be able to resist. The surrounding areas offer a large range of activities, such as hiking, cycling trails, climbing, paragliding, etc.

The history of Berga is ready to welcome you with open arms. Go on and treat yourself to a few days’ getaway where all you need to do is enjoy.
