"Staff are so lovely and welcoming, they made the stay so worth it. They made the effort to welcome and converse with us every time they saw us. They allowed us to check in 3 hours early which saved us so much time so we are so grateful for this.
There is a free coffee machine that you can help yourself to, it even has hot chocolate and English tea, it was so delicious.
The room was so clean, there were no flaws in terms of cleanliness. The bedding and towels were clean and had no stains. The beds were tidied everyday and the bathroom was cleaned too. We booked a double room, it is as small as it looks in the pictures. The room has a kettle and a tv. An iron is available upon request. It would be better if there was a small fridge.
If you’re on a girls trip this room won’t be ideal for you as there wasn’t much space for us to store our belongings and to get ready.
The hotel is located a short walk from the train and bus station.
Overall I thoroughly enjoyed this stay and would recommend this hotel. "
" The hotel is overall okay for the price, but there are a few things to be aware of.
The rooms are a bit outdated and could be cleaner – there was some dust, and the bathroom door paint is peeling. The walls are quite thin, so it can get noisy. Especially in the afternoons when tour buses arrive, it becomes quite loud and sometimes continues into the night, which affects the overall calm atmosphere.
On the positive side, the parking is a big advantage – it’s included, located directly in front of the rooms, and monitored by cameras, which makes it feel safe. The hotel is also located in a quiet, forest-like area, which is nice. There are shops and a city center nearby.
There is no restaurant in the hotel, but you can easily order food like pizza. We didn’t end up taking the train to Amsterdam because getting to the station requires a bus and the total cost for multiple people becomes quite expensive.
Overall, for the price, it’s acceptable, but there is definitely room for improvement. I recomend"
"Hotel Lion d'Or was a nice hotel with a friendly staff. The room was fairly large and clean. It had a very small refrigerator, but no microwave. We were a little cool in the room and could not get the heat to raise the temperature, but it wasn't bad. The elevator was small and pretty slow, but it worked. The location was good- less than a block from the train station and about a 10-minute walk from the old town. We did not eat any meals with them, so I can't comment on the food. We would stay there again if we visited Haarlem again. Note: As of April 2026, the exterior of the building is under renovation and is totally surrounded with scaffolding and sheets. This did not bother us in any way, but it was hard to recognize the building from the pictures on the internet, and of course there was no view from the window."
"Attentive and super friendly staff, clean, bike rental on site . Nice bar and they gave us complimentary drink coupons on the days that we didn’t require housekeeping! That was really nice :) location is in a quiet spot next to the bus stop within walking distance of May restaurants.
We will definitely stay here again when in Haarlem ! "
"No soap for bathtub. Fine if you only took showers. No outlet next to bed. Made it challenging to use a Sleep CPAC machine. Water kettle in room but no mugs only glass tumblers. Room fridge was not cold at all. Location was excellent next to train station. "
