I booked this hotel as it said it had 5 restaurants so I thought I would get plenty of options and wouldn’t need to go anywhere.
However there was only 2 options the buffet or Al le carte menu which wasn’t that vast. Food was disappointing.
Didn’t see the entertainment activities taking place either.
The staff are very accommodating and try and tend for your needs but it’s not always possible.
There is nothing to do outside the hotel either. You need to get a tuk tuk to go amywhere.
In all honesty, I have never been to a hotel where all the staff were so kind, generous, hard-working, accommodating and hospitable. The front desk, lobby staff, catering team, house-keeping and pool deck—every person was absolutely wonderful that I was deeply moved. It left such a powerful impression on me. I got a strong sense that the hotel was a team effort.
Due to an unfortunate turn of luck, I got sick on the first day and spent most of the duration of my stay bedridden or on the deck chair. The front desk sent for a doctor to come all the way to my room, which I was truly grateful for. Because of fever my bedsheets were soaked every night, but the house keeping (truly wonderful and kind people) made sure the room was clean and comfortable every day, with the bed made even without us asking (with flower petals on the bedding!).
In terms of the facility, the hotel is in an excellent location with a sprawling sandy beach right in front and excellent rolling waves (shallow enough to not be frightening) that are perfect for body boarding. The pool staff are always providing you with beach chairs and towels, and parasols and drinks if you wish it.
Needless to say, the food was exquisite. Every day there was plenty of variety to choose from and I could only describe the dessert selection as bountiful, sensational and artistic. We did once order a lobster dinner from the a la carte restaurant and that taste was worth every penny.

Squash was great. They were rebuilding alot of the property so couldn't enjoy the swimming pool and it's restaurant. Breakfast selection was great! Indoor games could use some improvement. Bathrooms could use updating as well.
Amazing pool, clean rooms, on the beach. Very good service, and excellent food options

Based on the standard elsewhere - disappointing!
I stayed here for four nights after spending a week traveling the rest of the island and staying in three other hotels. I'm sorry to say I have to agree with some of the other feedback in as much as the hotel is tired, showing it's age and in need of a revamp. The staff try hard but their attention to detail is often lacking. For example, on arrival I was told I'd been upgraded (which is always welcome) only to be shown to the room I'd booked and being repeatedly told it was an upgrade until I showed them the booking. My luggage also wasn't taken to the room but instead left in reception for me to collect when I realised it wasn't there! The food is also very variable with some nights being really good but others awful. Still the breakfast is good, the pool nice and it's on the beach so not all bad.
Lovely modern hotel, food hit and miss. Most staff lovely. Great facilities.

Close but no cigar
PLUS:
+ Location at the beach
+ Cleaning staff
MINUS:
- Slow service (ordering room service or even just a beer outside, took very long time).
- Check in / reception (messy and unorganized. Room was not ready. During our sit down check in, 3 different people came down to the reception loudly complaining about different things)
- Communication (1 week prior to arrival, I sent the hotel an e-mail asking them to arrange something nice in our room since it was our honey moon. No response what so ever. Needless to say, nothing was arranged).
We felt like the hotel must have had its prime like 15 years ago. The building and furnitures felt like they belonged in some old winter cabbin. The hotel is not bad but it could use a freshen up as well as some fine tuning in terms of the service.
We stayed at Eden for two days after staying at RIU Ahungulla Beach for a family reunion. I would say that we couldn't wait to leave Eden. The hotel rooms are dated, corridors are gloomy and dark. There are way too many cupboards in the rooms. We paid for an extra bed but it took almost 5 hrs to get it. Service at the 24 hr cafe was terrible and slow. Food was average and there was hair in the hot milk we ordered for baby. For the price we paid, we were totally unsatisfied.

Be careful there is a taxi mafia at hotel
I have stayed in Sri Lanka 4 times previously so I know what to expect. The Eden hotel employees are very kind and polite. But other taxi providers are not allowed to take you to or pick you up from the hotel! So the extortion on taxi fare charges is controlled to the point where nobody will charge you less than 9,000 rupees to take you to the airport and we even hear of violence between taxi drivers if you don’t use the taxi drivers that control completely the Eden hotel gates!!!!!
The most I liked about this place was the staff. They were very friendly and helpful. Especially travelling with kids this is quite important to us when choosing a hotel. Kids loved the pool as well. The breakfast buffet had a good spread.
