Betancuria’s small population is reflected in its quiet, charming ambiance. The town has a rich history, dating back to the turn of the 15th century, when French explorer Jean de Béthencourt founded it. Fly to Fuerteventura Airport on the island’s east coast, before taking a shuttle bus or taxi to Betancuria. The small town is about 20 miles (32 kilometres) west of the airport. The journey should take about half an hour. The mountainous town is just 2 miles (3.2 kilometres) west of Antigua.
