"This is the second time we have stayed at Peckforton Castle On this occasion we had a nicer room with a fabulous view of the front lawn. We visited the wine cellar bar but were disappointed to find that we were unable to pursue a menu over pre dinner drinks , because they were “ printed daily “ it would have been nice to look at it before being seated Dinner in the brasserie was disappointing on this visit and had deteriorated significantly since our previous meal there. The salmon starter was served on crackers which were tasteless, the homemade soup was good though. My ragu was poor with overcooked pasta and my partners chicken Caesar was poorly presented but tasted ok Previously the Asian chef had curry on the menu which was excellent and the food overall was better than on this occasion However it’s a wonderful hotel set in fabulous grounds and beautiful rooms. All the staff were friendly and helpful With one or 2 tweeks it would have been amazing; oh and don’t have GB News on in the breakfast room !"

"Cold welcome. Disgusting bathroom - I ran a bath and it was yellow and scummy. I had to find a cleaner to help me out, because the phone in the room didn’t work (however, the cleaner was lovely). Filthy windows. Tatty bed covering. All in all, it feels like a faded glory kind of situation. In the end I drove home rather than sleep there. The place just has a weird vibe."

"Staff so friendly and helpful. Found room quite warm in the day but in evening was able to open windows fully to get some air in (stayed in April). I imagine would be very hot in summer even with fan provided in room. Walls are very thin, not a problem for me as thankfully my neighbours were quiet but I know other people were not so lucky. Was able to do me a vegan breakfast in the morning which I was happy with. I would stay again if I was in the area and needed a good value place to stay. "

"Generally the rooms are to a high standard. The breakfasts are excellent, and the staff really friendly. Easy car parking. Only quibble is that we tried to book another 2 day stay, the system didn’t allow this - wanted 3 or more: this may vary with time of year."

"Room was tired and need refresh, cracked decor. Beds were clean. Light pollution from garden into room, lack of decent curtains. No breakfast during weekdays, did not bother with weekend. Noisy environment from pub and landlord’s flat next to room. Would not recommend."
