Very clean and modern and quiet rooms. Excellent buffet breakfast. Shower / tub combination was a little quirky with foldable shower door.

well-located and highly recommended
We had a pleasant stay. Our room (a superior double) is spacious. We particularly like the courtyard setting of the swimming pool and breakfast area. The reception was helpful, and you can custom order eggs for breakfast apart from what's in the buffet area. While it's initially a bit difficult to drive to the hotel because of many one-way streets, once you know the area, it's not that bad. The hotel is in a good location, just next to the cable car and outside the old town.

Clean, kind, cramped but did the job.
This hotel was nice, clean, right across from shopping and about 2 blocks from the pretty touristy part of town. Unfortunately we walked the wrong way and were quite afraid in this city. I’m sure summer is prettier but all we saw was power lines and dirty streets. The hotel is in a safer area….but barely. The room was also extremely cramped. I know rooms in Europe are small but this one just seemed uncomfortable. The hotel staff were kind. We just don’t want to go to Bolzano again. It’s more industrial than I thought. Next time I’d stay in a pretty house on the hillside rather than in the city.

Good evening, it hasn't rained since months so Dog droppings do not get washed away. We had several meetings with the authorities, but they seemed to be reluctand to tackle the security problems in town. Do not get me wrong until 22-23 everything is fine, but you are right, later on, we advise not to hang around in the fruit market area, and to go straight back to the hotel. Unfortunatly a different kind of nightlife is starting then. Around the hotel it is safe, maybe because of CCTV in use. Kind regards,

The ONLY hotel not to provide a COVID-19 refund or
This was the ONLY hotel that did not offer a refund or credit for future stays during the COVID-19 closure of Italy / the world for travel. Airbnb gave 100% cash refunds and other hotel.com properties offered either a refund or a credit for future stays. Stiegl Scala Hotel however charged my credit card after the Italian Government placed Italy into lock down. Hotel.com was unable to resolve this issue.

Good afternoon Roger, unfortunately this is a blatant lie. You neve got in contact with us, and hotels.com simply ignored our answer were we requested a bank account. This is our answer to Hotels.com from the 11.05.20 Good morning, the hotel is closed until Monday 11.05. We are willing to refund all reservations that are impeded by travel restrictions. For the time being we can only process refunds via bank transfer, and are currently working to get the refund function on credit cards as well. Kind regards, Peter Trafojer We do not find it justified to get a bad remark because a travel agent is not acting with due diligence. All refunds need to be requested with mail. Wonderful hotel
Very nice hotel situated about ten minute walk from Piazza Walther. Right near the cable car up to the mountain for 15 Euro with train ride at the top. Will definitely stay here again if I am back in town.

The rooms at this hotel are comfortable. The bathroom was a good size, with a nice shower. The bed was comfortable and the hotel quiet. There is a lovely courtyard off the breakfast area. The staff seemed confused by our booking and tried to charge us for the room even though we had paid through Expedia. We had to tell her twice that we had already paid. In the end it worked out fine but I am glad that we had printed out our confirmation.

THE ONLY choice in Bolzano!!!
In real estate they say location is everything, if that is true of hotels, well then, this is the big lewinski! I cannot believe there is a better located hotel in all of Bolzano. This coupled with the beautiful property, abundant free parking, an amazing breakfast (along with a genuinely friendly, courteous and helpful staff), world class reception, wonderful memory foam matress and just right pillows in a truly tasteful room - WOW! We were traveling from Munich to Venice and this seemed like a great stopover because of the cable car (first one ever BTW, invented here in 1908!) and the fun little train on top of the mountain - but it turned out to be one of our favorite destinations of this trip. The hotel is literally a 3 minute walk to the cable car and a 10 minute walk to old town and all the shopping. So we parked (choice of 3 lots, 2 free, UG is $11) , checked in, was wowed by the room, and then went to the cable car. We spent a few hours on the mountain top and then returned to town. We were fortunate that we found an amazing restaurant (I will review it) and then went back to the room for a wonderful nights sleep. The room was quiet, comfortable and had a great shower with lots of pressure and an abundance of hot water. After a restful nights sleep we awoke to a grand breakfast. Everything was available and fresh, hot/cold, pastries, cereal, yogurt, fresh fruit.... and cooked to order eggs. Out of room here... shame I cannot write more!

They pride themselves as a 4 star establishment but the quality of the service was not four star. While we were there daylight saving changed over but the hotel clocks did not change and the hotel did not tell the residents. It took four attempts to order a taxi and we were on the verge of walking in the rain for a 1km trip.

Lovely, reasonable hotel near to most everything
While this hotel is not in the very center of town, it is certainly walkable to most things you would want to do. Very close to the wonderful cable car and also to the train station. Rooms were very clean and beds were comfortable. Breakfast very good.

The hotel was clean and comfortable beds. We checked in on a Saturday afternoon. We tried to find any place we could nearby open to eat. There was nothing except a Japanese ramen place nearby. The entire area around the hotel seemed to close down and appeared empty after 5 pm. We ate at the hotel but would have preferred to get out and try some of the local eateries. The neighborhood is covered with graffiti and I felt on heightened alertness when we were out. Overall a little disappointed with the overall experience. I would try to find some place better situated next time.

Easy walk to train station, river, old town
The location of Scala Hotel Stiegl was fantastic if you want to be away from the train station atmosphere but still close to the old town. The hotel is grand and has a pool and lovely patio under the trees for outdoor breakfast, dining and drinks. The buffet breakfast is wonderful especially the selection of pastries. The room was very clean, great wifi, dog-friendly, and the only place we stayed where there is air conditioning and it works! My room had a beautiful view over the rooftops to the mountains.

Short walk to central area. Couldn't research because WiFi always weak when on, disconnects every 5 or 20 minutes, takes 10 minutes to reconnect. 4 star prices. 2 star conveniences. I asked for another cup of morning coffe, gave up. I guess i cup limit. No water at breakfast either. Staff nice. Rooms clean. Bolzano very nice

Overall strong with some odd notes...
My first time in Bolzano and I just picked by price on Expedia. The outside of the building reminds one of The Grand Budapest Hotel and I was a little worried...the lobby and lounge are mid-century but thankfully the rooms are modern, clean, and convenient. Kind of a mixed aesthetic. Decent European breakfast in a room that maintains the old Tyrolean traditions. What I found odd was the incredible tension among the staff. The man who appears to live at the front desk needs to find a job that suits his poetic nature better...he seemed very tense and unhappy. The breakfast room staff snapped at each other about how the tablecloths were folded. I think this is an example where the Austrian/Italian marriage of the city seems to need a little counseling. If you're only going to be using the rooms to sleep and change, this is a good place, quiet and clean and cozy. Just don't plan to hang around much.

Great hotel and very accomodating
We had a wonderful stay at this hotel. The staff was very helpful and accomodating. Our room had a beautiful view of the mountains. It was about a fifteen minute walk to the main shopping area and Christmas market. Lots of shopping and very festive market that I would highly recommend. We were able to park for free by parking on the road out front. We would definitely stay here again.

Great hotel just outside of the main tourist area
Hotel is about a 10-minute walk from the train station. We were fine to have one rolling luggage each, walking the street. If you have more, you may want a taxi. It is also relatively close to the main tourist area (another 10 minute walk). This meant the hotel location is quiet and peaceful. The room was very spacious and the bathroom was also great. There was a really good selection for breakfast, and the staff were friendly.
