The Historic Brookdale Lodge, Santa Cruz Mountains
8/10 Good
"We stayed here because we were attending a 5PM wedding nearby. Room was not ready when we arrived at 3:00 PM - waited almost an hour to be given the clearance to go to the room. Desk clerk was friendly and apologetic.
Room was clean and very basic. Beds were comfortable. Room had a mini fridge, desk and desk chair, TV on the dresser which had several drawers. Furniture is old but serviceable. No patio or balcony in the room we had.
There is a restaurant on property (we didn't have time to try it) and a convenience store too - snacks, drinks including beer and wine, and some souvenirs. Hotel is a bit overpriced for what you get, but it's one of the few hotels around so they've got you if you need to be in this area. There's an adjacent property which had a very nice bar.
It's quite a drive off of the main highway (HWY 17 between San Jose and Santa Cruz) and the roads are very twisty. The surrounding Santa Cruz Mtns are beautiful to drive through - so location is a plus.
Parking is a bit limited and spaces are tight. Larger vehicles will be squeezing into a space.
There are a number of local restaurants and bars close by - we didn't get a chance to visit any but they looked well-attended.
Nothing fancy or special about this hotel - it's been around a long time. It'll get the job done."
"This is hands down the best hotel I've stayed at in santa cruz. The bar, the food, the amenities, the pool, the hot tub that's big enough for ten adults.. We will definitely be back."
"We enjoyed our stay at this hotel the room was clean the staff was friendly. Jacuzzi and pool was spacious and clean. Lobby is awesome. Restaurant was excellen. Nice touch was free s'mores for the kids between 7-8pm every night. I've stayed twice now I love it"
"First time staying here. Front desk staff was great. Lots of parking. Room was decent. Loved that they had a microwave AND refrigerator. The bed was surprisingly very comfortable. The only complaint I had was the A/C machine was quite loud. It took me a bit to get used to but it ended up acting like white noise and didn’t keep me awake. Great value for the price and location."
"Very nice place. The staff was wonderful! The room was spacious and clean. Pool was nice and warm. They had laundry facilities which was very useful as we were on a long road trip. Breakfast was nice."
