The hotel room was quite basic and not very well laid out, I thought. Bed was comfortable. Compared to others I stayed in during the same week this was a much lower standard but a very similar price. Staff were really nice.

Very warm welcome, Room was clean and tidy . I arrived late but had collected the key earlier in the day, which was no problem at all. Breakfast was continental, but plenty of choice

Friday night stay

It's nice to stay in a pub, you have dinner and a few beers and just have to walk upstairs to bed, no driving necessary. A lovely historic pub with a pretty and quite large beer garden which is perfect for summer evenings watching the sunset. It was a bit warm when we visited and a fan had been left in our room which was fantastic. The room was small but we had expected that so no problem for us. There are 2 car parks for guests of the hotel. The included breakfast was good. We tried the pizza for dinner which was really yummy. Staff and patrons friendly and helpful.

I was on a walking trip and arrived at the Griffin late on a very hot summer afternoon. The welcome was great and the beer, lovely, though the tables in the beer garden had not been cleaned for some time. My room faced the street and had been absorbing the sun for the whole of the afternoon and was like a sauna, so I had to fully open the window. By the time I retired to bed it had cooled somewhat and in my exhaustion I did fall quickly to sleep, but with the window still fully open, the morning traffic noise woke me early. Maybe worth requesting a room facing the back of the hotel if these are not more expensive. The room was also quite small. Whilst perfect for me as a solo traveller, had my wife been accompanying me, one of us would have slept against the wall. The food in the evening was very good and well priced. My steak was cooked rare, as requested - not something that happens often. Midweek continental breakfast was simple, but very nice. Despite my comments about the room, overall, it was very good value for money and I would still recommend it.

It was nice.
Nice clean room with helpful and polite team running the establishment. Lovey location, great view. Only downside was a single bed. Not great, when over 6foot tall. Otherwise, very nice.

An enjoyable one night stay, the service and friendliness of the staff was excellent and much appreciated. The only downside for us was the £20/dog/night additional charge which we considered to be highly excessive and would deter us from a future stay.

The Griffin team made a good weekend. Great!
Impromptu weekend get away, walking in the Brecons. Hotel was extremely easy to find good visitors parking area. Checking in was simple and extremely friendly. Shown to the room and facilities. Booked for a event meal prior. Really good to see a small bar and restaurant buzzing! Great simple food done well! Recommend the Griffin for a weekend break.

Helpful, friendly attentive staff, food first rate, the only negative, room allocated to us was above the boiler room & next to the utility room, which for us would have been too hot even in average weather conditions, the bed was threequarters & against a wall, making it cramoed., other rooms looked better appointed.

Very dated room above a pub that smelled like a wet dog has been sleeping in it we paid 100.00 for the pleasure not even cooked breakfast in the price no wonder we were only ones that stayed there that night

OK for weekend stay
We had a comfortable weekend at the Griffin. However the bed was much smaller than we are used to, we had to remake the bed as although the duvet cover looked laundered it was badly stained. On our booking we were told there was daily housekeeping but nobody did our room on the Saturday so the bed wasn't made, the rubbish wasn't emptied and the tea making facilities were not topped up. I asked for some milk and they did give me a jug full. The staff were friendly and helpful, the room was a bit old fashioned but clean and comfortable, the bathroom was good and modern. Our booking confirmation said bed sheets unavailable so we phoned them and they said of course we supply bed sheets!!
