We arrived at the hotel to then see that it was a building sight and the hotel no longer Existed, was absolutely fuming will never book with hotels.com again
Property was closed down yet Expedia still sold us the stay - disgraceful selling and in breach of the Consumer Rights Act 2015. Still waiting for a refund over a week later.
THIS PLACE HAS BEEN CLOSED DOWN SINCE LAST SEPTEMBER DO NOT BOOK... WE TURNED UP AND IT WAS BOARDED UP. LEFT WITH NOWHERE TO SLEEP!!!
WE ARE DISGUSTED WITH HOTELS.COM
WE ARE TAKING THIS FURTHER...
Stayed here a few times before and overall it's a lovely hotel. Usually, the rooms are decent, clean and equipped well enough. The main building houses a nice little bar, small breakfast area but all decorated with a nice touch that looks welcoming.
This time I stayed in the Stable part of the building. Never again.
Freezing cold (one small radiator) and I'd imagine it's sweltering in the summer. Thin cheap mattress. Rubbish bin not emptied fully. Previous guest must have broke the shower head holder so it nearly fell on me - so then had to have a shower whilst holding it in the air.
Id stay again, it is a nice hotel but just not in the 'stable' rooms. It literally may as well be a stable.

Shared bathroom, which had live unterminated cables with insulation tape on the ends. Wait in morning so long we left without eating, if we had stayed to eat, food expensive.
Will not be returning.
Clean stay, food good, not so sure if I would pay to stay again. Value for money not so great.

Convenient place to stay for Brentwood.
We arrived 25 mins before official check in time of 3pm. Was made to wait until 3pm prompt before they would let us into the room which niggled us a bit. Room was very basic but clean and only for one night. Breakfast very good and staff very pleasant.
It was not bad, however, it could be better. You cannot check in without an ID, the bathroom is cold during the winter, especially when your room is not in the main building. The shower enclosure too small, wifi too poor.
What a lovely place. The staff are very accommodating and are discretely eager to ensure your needs are met. The room was nicely appointed and the on-suite was clean and well maintained. In fact, my room had just been repainted, good to see upkeep in action. The bed was comfortable and I have no complaints about the condition of the linen or towels. The food was really good & the suggested accompanying wine was a great choice. It's very easy to find, convenient for the access around the Brentwood & Upminster area and a shortish walk in to Great Warley to a lovely local pub.
staff very attentative, food excellent compliments to the chef, all in all a good stay

Fuss on arrival because I didn't bring Photo ID
First time in the UK I have been asked to supply Photo ID. This was not stated on the booking form, and luckily I had my work ID. This needs to be clearly mentioned on the booking form.
Also I had a call earlier in the day as they had not been able to take the money, so asked me for my Card details including security number....
Lastly they had a 3 pin socket in the car park, so I asked to connect my electric car - but was told no, their Insurance doesn't cover that - really??

Value for money
Lovely room, great shower, comfy bed. Had the breakfast the next day which was lovely. Staff were lovely too. Great value for money. Would stay again
Stayed 1 night in an attempt to find somewhere decent to stay in the area.
On arrival receptionist asked for proof of my id and photocopied it.
I asked about GPRD compliance but she was clueless.
Should have refused and walked but I needed somewhere to get my head down.
Booked a quiet room and was given bridal/executive room at the front facing main road. Room very plain nothing remarkable except for road noise.
Was moved to smaller back room, a poor exchange.
No refund of difference.
All enquiries had to be made to "senior management". Received 1 response saying they would reply within a few days ... no follow up.
This regular hotel user will give this one a miss.
Terrible staff, I had to pay in advance of arrival, they insisted on copying of ID without any plausible reason other than "it's hotel policy", they couldn't explain what they did with the copy of my ID and wouldn't allow me to stay without it. I reached a compromise where they could see my ID, with no idea of what they did with it, I didn't feel they were treating my concern with any respect - perhaps they need to review the newly introduced GDPR regulations and whether they are meeting those requirements?!
The room was fairly average given it was the executive/bridal room. The noise from upstairs, downstairs and outside made for an interesting night.
The cleanliness needs attention to detail, dust was evident in the harder to clean places, I cleaned the TV remote for you (you're welcome), and the bathroom needs a deep clean to rid the ground in dirt your routine cleaning is not properly addressing.
Other than this scathing review - stay there if you want to be insulted by the 'welcome' and your standards are not too high....
I was flabbergasted when I was refused entry to this hotel as I could not provide photo ID on check in. Nowhere on Expedia does it say that you need photo ID. Luckily the De Rougemont Manor half a mile away had a room.
Shower was good and the lady on reception in the morning was nice. Only a 5 minute drive to town center which has plenty of places to eat.
Unfortunately i found the bed very uncomfortable, and noise from other rooms very noticeable. Had to sleep with window open as a warm night (no air con just a fan), which meant quite a bit of traffic noise. Room was very very light in the morning, all in all did not get a decent nights sleep. Room was clean enough if a bit dated. Struggled with the wi-fi which didn't work particularly well. I stayed in the stables section, main part of hotel might be better, but i won't be using again
Looked after us fantastically well. Massively friendly and hospitable. Thanks Jack and Susan. Laid back and eefficient. Shown round by Vicky on arrival. Enjoyed the room and breakfast as well. Lovely quiche.
