Brønnøysund offers a wonderful array of active pursuits for you to enjoy.

A trip to Brønnøysund offers many exciting outdoor activities with plenty of beautiful cycling and hiking trails all along the Helgeland coastline. You can even join the many fishing trips or safari tours at sea, but don’t forget to visit the area’s famous mountains, Torghatten and The Seven Sisters.

Brønnøysund is described as the “Coastal town in the centre of Norway”, but might be best known as the home of the state-run Brønnøysund Registers. Located on Brønnøy island in Nordland county, it is linked to the neighbouring island by a bridge, Brønnøysundbrua. A weekend trip to Brønnøysund allows you to explore this part of the Norwegian coastline.

Visit the Norwegian Maritime Centre to learn more about the area’s fishing industry, which is essential to Northern Norway as a whole. If you have an interest in cultural history, you should visit Brønnøy Church, the oldest parts of which date back to the Middle Ages. Or if you fancy exploring the local area, the Børgefjell National Park is well worth a visit. The park spans an area of nearly 580 square miles and has a variety of outdoor experiences on offer.

If you are planning to head out to sea or into the forests or meadows, make sure you bring plenty of warm clothes as the weather can vary greatly and can quickly become cold and unpleasant, even in summer. There are numerous interesting sights along the Helgeland coastline and the views are simply magical.

If you are travelling from afar, it may be easiest to fly into and stay at a hotel in Brønnøysund. It’s also a good idea to have access to a car to get around the area at your own pace. You can easily hire a car at the airport. There are also bus links to other local towns.

Whether you prefer to be at sea, follow the coastline or head into the mountains, Brønnøysund has a multitude of outdoor experiences on offer. If you prefer being closer to urban life, the town also has exciting activities and experiences for you to enjoy.
