Ramada by Wyndham State College Hotel & Conference Center
6/10 Okay
"The heater made a horrible noise waking me up several times during the night and my room wasn't cleaned after the first night. There was also this persistent fan noise even when all ligbts and fans were turned off"
"Room was ok. Air conditioner made sounds like an airplane departing. The shower made a screeching sound throughout the shower. Breakfast was pleasant and had good variety. Stage was hard to understand but friendly. "
"This is one of those limited staff hotels. The kind where there is no one at the front desk. You can call or text someone. But the lobby is empty. There is no one to help with luggage. There is no elevator. I walked my own luggage up 3 flights. At checkin there was someone who showed us to the room. I suppose I could have asked her to grab my luggage but at that point it seemed easier to deal with it myself. After that I never saw them again.
There is no parking. It's even difficult to stop outside to unload as you would block the street. You need to park at a garage 2 blocks away and pay an extra 20$ a day. They will not validate. It does say that in the Expedia description but it's buried.
The biggest issue with limited staff is there is an after hours door separate from the main door. I was told after 11:00 to use that door. However, one night the main door closed early and I was literally locked in the building at 10:00 p.m. walking around a dark lobby. Looking for the after hours door to get outside.
When I posted a mid review for checking on Expedia someone from the staff reached out via text and asked what they could do to help. I explained how I was locked in when they closed the door early and that I was disappointed about parking and lack of an elevator. They never responded....
The room was fine. Clean but small. The location was great. Walking distance from the Penn State campus. But I seem to be running into these do-it-yourself hotels more and more. "
