The cottage is situated on a beautiful hillside overlooking Valentia and the village of Cahersiveen. Even the beautiful photos on the site do not do the view justice. We spent far more time than we planned just sitting in the back room with a book in our laps listening to the sheep and gazing out across the mountains and the river.
The hiking trail to the top of the hill behind the house afforded another (and different) view, out over Dingle Bay. Our children loved to roam up there, look for the fairy houses and picnic at the tables placed along the trail.
The cottage itself is very comfortable and quite large. It was more than enough space for our family of six. We had everything we needed to cook meals. Laundry in the house meant that we left after two weeks with clean clothes for the next leg of our journey.
Cahersiveen was a lovely little village, quite underrated I think now having spent so much time there and having visited many of the more touted villages (Dingle, Kenmare, Adare) during our trip. We worried that being so far off into the southwest would be limiting but it was just the opposite. We found that we had everything we needed and more. A good selection of pubs in town, various restaurants (Chinese, Curry, Pizza in the Oratory, etc.), two convenient shops for groceries, etc.
Mike and Gillian were very welcoming and great to do business with.
When we come back to Ireland, we will book this cottage. You should, too!
