The Capital Hotel Cairo is in a very old and central location about 8 minutes walk from Cairo Museum and the Nile River. The hotel itself is on the first floor of a very old building in the centre of Old Cairo, you access it through a dark wooden door and the passage is closed to cars (so it is a bit quieter than the street). The lift in the building is very-very antique and we were told not to use it (though it did appear to be powered on). There was a person on the door at night and during the day and the reception was staffed 24 hours. Internally the hotel is quite comfortable with air-conditioning and well maintained facilities inside. The staff were very friendly and very helpful during our stay. They provided us with cooked breakfast each day and bottled water when we first arrived. There are 24 hour vendors downstairs that sell bottled water, snacks and soft-drinks for around 10 EGP. The best features of the hotel are the architecture of the building itself, the walkability and the access to the Nile and the Cairo Museum, and the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff. Directly across the road is the 'Americana Hub' which gives you an air-conditioned place to wait for an Uber to take you to Giza to see the pyramids on a hot day. This part of Cairo is ancient, there are huge street parties on Friday nights directly downstairs (along Talaat Harb Street). We never felt unsafe and businesses were very friendly especially in the mornings before it gets too hot.

The location is excellent the room is relatively clean and you can leave keys with receptionist for a room clean and bin change daily. The size of the room is small but neat. My partner found it difficult to return to sleep once awoken as the traffic is heavy until about 3pm and most drivers blow horns for what seems to be for the fun of it. Shopping access metro and travel links hustle and bustle is available on your doorstep which i appreciated, but if you want a quiet space may have to consider an area out of the downtown area.

The room was great, very comfortable bedroom, nice bathroom, large space, very clean and modern (I was surprised by the nice room, I was not expecting something that good). Staff was super friendly and helpful. The hotel is only one floor in a very old building (just like all the buildings in Cairo), the entrance is ugly (like most of the building in the area) but the rooms are pretty good and well maintained. The location is somehow convenient since it’s downtown Cairo and there are many places of interest nearby. Personally, I just found the area and Cairo in general too crowded and noisy, but that has nothing to do with the hotel. This hotel is a convenient and cheap option to stay.

Excellent location and price
Location is excellent, bang central downtown Cairo 10 minutes from the Nile and Museum with lots of shops on your doorstep. A little noisy yes with the taxi horns but not too bad. Staff were fine especially Hamid and Sama. Suggestions for improvement - sheets/bedding could have been a little cleaner, breakfast was a little basic with no Western bread/toast or cereals such as cornflakes but overall for the price was good. Whoever reads this and has the authority I saw a couple of child beggars on the adjacent streets - this situation obviously needs to be addressed and those poor children need to be helped by whatever means necessary.

Great location in downtown Cairo
We stayed at the Capital Cairo Hotel (on goggle maps as Cairo Capital Plaza) for three nights while we were in Cairo. The hotel is very conveniently located near Tahrir Square and multiple metro stops. There are also several shops and restaurants along Talaat Harb St. The hotel was clean and rooms were as described. The hotel staff was friendly, professional, and very helpful. During our stay they helped arrange a driver to the Pyramids and answered several other questions. Would highly recommend if you're looking for an affordable hotel in the downtown Cairo area!

Dear Paula , thank you very much for taking from your time review us , but to be honest this is not fair , you booked our hotel , your rooms were booked for you as your booking , but you came to the hotel with egyptian boyfriend and wanted to stay together in the same room and as you KNOW VERY WELL that , according to the egyptian low , is not allowed to have an egyptian man with you without marriage contract , so we understand that you were not happy , but those are rules out of our hands , so we think is not very fair to blame the hotel for that , anyway thank you

Staff was super friendly, especially Anis was very helpful and he became our go to when we needed help or had questions. The hotel was very clean, beds were comfortable, and the dining area was nice to eat at or read away from the room. Concerns were: wifi was slow and inconsistent. The bathroom shower released a gassy/sewage smell. This was alleviated with a shower drain cover that the hotel already had in place (removed for showering) and keeping the bathroom door closed. The street the hotel is on is closed and has no car access, so this posed challenges with Uber pickups. Otherwise, the hotel was fine and very central to eateries, shops, and the museum.

Nice, clean and modern. Very polite/ kind staff. So close to Cairo city centre (good location). Busy but safe shopping area. The hotel is at the first floor and the lift does not serve this floor, you have to carry/ move your luggage to the first floor. الفندق نظيف ،حديث ومرتب وقريب جدا من ساحة التحرير. الخدمة ممتازة على مدى ال٢٤ ساعة، العاملين في الفندق محترمين ومتعاونين جدا. المنطقة تجارية ومؤمنة طول اليوم وهادئة نوعا ما بالليل. عيب الفندق الوحيد أنه لا يوجد مصعد لنقل الحقائب إلى الطابق الأول حيث يتوضع الفندق.

You don't get what you pay for
The hotel is located in a perfect area if you want to stay in downtown Cairo. However, I was given a different room than the one I booked due to some hotel-related issue. Nevertheless, for some weird reason they downgrade the room someone is exptected and paid to stay while, in fact, they should give a better room since it's not the guest's fault.

In general, the hotel is above the average in the area. However, there is one receptionist with glasses who will make your experience terrible. I called him for a early check in (5 hours earlier) and he asked me to pay half a night. I was never told this before in any hotel I stayed in. During checkout I wanted to extend for one night and despite of availability on Expedia on which I could have extended, I called him to extend and he told me there are no available rooms. He simply lacks the basics of customer service.

It was a very frustrating and disappointed experience, but at least not the worst thing I have encountered in Egypt. To be honest the place is well located, clean and comfortable with nice interiors but weak WiFi signal, no lift access so be ready to hand carry ur luggage, no windows in single rooms as well. I spent there 60 nights, I had surgery and was very sick so couldn’t move somewhere else. Initially I felt home but after a while things started to change as my breakfast was never on time even though I told the housekeeping staff many times that I have to eat cuz I must take my medicine on time. Another issue was in last 10 days of my stay, the manager “ Saied” has ruined everything by a weird decision which is “no more breakfast for me“ even though the breakfast was included in my reservation, when I inquired about the issue, the receptionist lady “ Haide” wasn’t truthful to me and played dumb as she knows nothing. For me,it’s not about breakfast which is less than 10 egp it’s more about how to be honest and respect guests. I was so mad and decided to leave the hotel even asked for refund cuz I felt like they were trying to rip me off. However I would like to thank the staff Karim and Ahmad these guys were so kind with me.

Sir , thank you for your feedback and ur time , we just need to clear some facts about what you have wrote about us , - you stayed with us 60 nights and we were giving you breakfast as your reservation say and with the second wave of COVID we got a very firm instructions from the government not to serve any breakfast for YOUR safety and my employees safety as well , so it was not something we did in purpose to annoy you , it’s just we can not do that , sorry for you that you couldn’t understand or cared about anyone safety or rules . - rooms are very nice , I’m so happy with you - that’s what you said to me personally ( the manger ) when asked you how is your stay with us . - you said that u had an operation and you couldn’t move , well , I think we can approve that you were out of your room most of the day time shopping and exploring around , so it is hard for us that you had an operation as you claimed . - Downtown is full of hotels next door so you could have moved easily to any of those hotels but the fact is that you couldn’t find cleaner or nicer than our hotel with our prices . - about our Receptionest (Haidy ) I don’t think it was her fault or it is your right to get angry when you asked her to give you the room with 50% discount that the price you paid ( which is already 70% discount) we couldn’t do that as it is not profitable for us , that’s the reason why you got angry from ( the manager ) and her or your attitude was so un acceptable after this situation , and we did handle it as it is our job to be nice and smily even with your attitude. We just want to ask you to be fair and after 60 NIGHTS , you say you couldn’t move to another hotel , really ? How you can handle to be in a place you hate for 60 NIGHTS? Unless what you are saying is totally not true . All the best Life is about fairness
