Got the job done for what I needed, but I can see every reason for people not to like it. Staff seemed like they didn't want to be there, the fittings in some of the fixtures and furniture in the room where loose, no WiFi password given despite access being advertised. Noisy area, but it's a Saturday night in Newport and I don't sleep well travelling anyway.

I decided not to stay in this grubby, smelly hotel that had the feel of a hostel! I have literally never done this before, but I chose to sleep on a friend’s sofa at the age of 67 rather than stay at this hotel. I was unable to claim a refund because I hadn’t paid the extra amount. I’m still very angry about it, because as a woman travelling alone I would have felt unsafe in this tatty, unkempt, dilapidated place. I’ve stayed in hotels on all but one continent on the planet, but this is the first I’ve refused to stay in.

Bed was comfortable. The bars are noisy, it was the weekend, but the base is very loud, and goes on until late. The entrance to the hotel was nice and tidy, and we were able to check in early, from there it all got interesting, the room key cards have different room numbers on them, mine did not work, it was not even programmed for the room, we went out and when we returned the same, key did not work, went down to reception, was given another key, room number was written on it not programmed, followed to the room by a member of staff, he let us in with his master key, was given a random card to put in the electric key inside the room. This was the same for another couple. It would seem that they had no facility to reprogramme the cards, just to write room numbers on them in permanent marker! Good job the front desk is 24/7. The room was ok, a little tired, but bearable. If the key cards issue was sorted then it would be ok. Everything seemed to be running off random bits of paper.

We used this hotel as it was close to a job that we were doing. For a stay as a couple, I’d give it a wide berth. Staff were friendly and efficient enough, no complaints there. Hotel was same decor as a premier inn but obviously lacks the same funding. Hotel was soulless and needs a revamp. It’s definitely not a boutique hotel or a 4star. No breakfast, no bar! 2 stars at most.

No better than a glorified hostel
Rooms shabby NO breakfast which was included in price and nobody there to discuss this matter with. Central location but very noisy at night from local bars etc probably better suited for people just wanting a place to crash after a night out rather than a family.

We arrived at the hotel to see an employee with a black eye. He was rude and unhelpful during check-in. The room was fine, but noisy due to bars in the proximity. Management revamping clearly needed.

Disgusting room, very disappointed.
This was our second stay at the Silurian Hotel. Our room was disgusting, the floor was filthy, the shower only request although confirmed IT WAS A SHOWER OVER A BATH, although hand rails not suitably positioned for getting in and out. The shower curtain was dirty. The room smelt of cigarettes, the windows were filthy, The room card key constantly failed. There were cigarette ends sitting between the secondary glazing and cigarette ash inside and outside on the ledges. And to top it all the door frame housing the lock had been previously broken into and the lock was hanging down and the door frame was split all of the way down. Offering very little security to the room or to ourselves. I brought all of these things to the attention to the manager and showed him the door he informed me that the door had been kicked in two weeks previously by a guest as the door key entry card was not working. I informed him that the room should never had been in use and that we did not feel safe in there. He replied you are perfectly safe!!! I shall be making a formal complaint and requesting a refund.

It was OK but a bit hit and miss. Keys kept failing and one of our parties room's toilet was leaking. The receptionists didn't make it to the desk until midday so a lot of waiting around. Asked for tea and coffee for the room but it never came and some guy with an can of lager kept hanging around in reception! Clean though and the break fast was good.

Not recommended. Very noisy nightclub music until around 3 am. Room was boiling hot with no AC and windows which are unable to be opened. Initially no toiletries in the room until I asked. Bed was comfortable but bathroom had not been cleaned prior to check in. Disappointing experience.

Two of us turned up with bookings and they had one room. They know in advance of the problem but failed to warn us or find a solution. They told me people with bookings had been turning up all day they could not accommodate. I was left without a room at 10.30 pm on a day when rooms were impossible to find. Hopelss and utterly ineffectual about the situation they had put me in.
