The best part about this hostel was the location. The rooms look cool, but there are several things that could be improved. - About a week before we were due to check in, we were charged the first night's stay. In the fine print of our reservation, it states that we would be charged for the first night's stay if we cancelled after a certain date, but it doesn't say that you will pre-emptively be charged this amount on that day. When we saw this charge we grew worried that our reservation hadn't gone through. - The wifi doesn't really work in the rooms (or at least it didn't in our room). - The room smelled very strongly of mothballs. - There is a club right across the street so if you are in one of the rooms that face the street be aware that the music will be blasting until 3 or 4 in the morning.

Great location in Cartagena
Our saty was good, We are disapointed because they charge us the 19% IVA that is only for Colombia nationals and we show them our US passports. Also the hotel did not have hot water in the shower. The hotel is very good located, very clean and service is good.

Great Spot in Cartagena, Highly Recommended.
I loved this place, it was charming, the room was large and the location could not be better if you want to be in the old city. Nice people. Breakfast not included and no hot water, but you really do not need it as the weather is so hot.

Definitely worth staying here!
The hotel is in a fantastic area and I felt safe at all times. The old town absolutely comes alive at night, yet when in our room, we were never disturbed by any street noise and inside the hotel it was very quiet. The rooftop terrace was great for relaxing and the hotel staff were very friendly and helpful, although they did not speak any English. The room was clean and the facilities were decent. We didn't have any hot water in the shower, but it wasn't a big problem as it's so hot outside anyways. Really good value for money and brilliant location.

Good for the price
This hotel is centrally located in the old town and good for the price. Plus the staff is very friendly and helpful, but doesn't speak a word of English. There is a nice small terrace on the roof. We stayed in room #1 which is in need of some renovations and wasn't extra clean. We could hear the guests upstairs talking like if they were in the same room as us. The street was also very noisy at night during the weekend and we weren't able to sleep before 2 or 3am on Friday and Saturday. We found cockroaches on 2 occasions in our room. The hotel gave us clean towels every day, but sometimes they would give us a large towel, sometimes a small one, sometimes one would be missing, not consistent. Not hot water, only cold water, but the weather was so hot and humide that it didn't really matter to us.

The hotel exceeded our expectations.... We were 4 adults, 1 child and a 17 yr old Our room was on the 3floor exactly like the pic.. we had 3 beds and 2 full bathrooms + a full size refrig. Very clean, they send there laundry out. We arrived when fresh towels were being dropped. I say this bcuz we r germ freaks its like i carry my own bleach bottle, lol. We had a terrace view was nice and ac works they have in the room.. Staff is nice and its close to everything... Enjoy ur stay we did..Buen viaje

Great place for the price!
This was a great hostel for the price. I had a private room and private bathroom - basically felt like a hotel! I even had room service!!! The only downside is that you are literally in the heart of central Cartagena - so it can get pretty noisey late at night. Also, there was no hot water - but given the heat, I didn't mind at all. I was surprised that there was air conditioning in the unit - this much needed with the heat!!

Lovely hotel, but noisy
I really enjoyed the decor of the hotel and it was very clean. However, I stayed in room 1 which faced the street. I was woken up a few times by noisy drunks on the street outside. On top of that, the ceiling is made of thin wood. There is apparently a two room suite above room 1 and someone left their cellphone on the floor above our bed. Their alarm went off for 10 minutes at 6am and it rattled the entire ceiling. It was also loud when the people above us walked around. This is a good hotel, but avoid that room if possible. Also, the only breakfast they offer is coffee and toast (which was gone by 8:30am). I wish hotels didn't advertise a free breakfast when this is all they give.

This is an okay option - and a decent price for the location. Note - except for the fanciest hotels - it is likely that you will not have hot (or warm) water in your hotel. Calamari does not have hot/warm water. Apparently this is typical for many buildings in Cartagena. The best part of this place is the location - it is in the old town center - and right near one of the entrances gates to the city. The worst part of my stay was the room - The size of the room was nice, but it was very dark. And my room had no window! Also - I booked my room through hotels dot com and the room was advertised as having a private 'furnished balcony' - obviously this was not the case as I did not even have a window. When I brought this discrepancy to the staff's attention - they just said that 'no, that is not possible, your room does not have that.' There was no attempt to offer a discount, or room switch, or even to apologize. I arrived before check in - and they don't have a room to store your bags - you just have to leave it in a public hallway. Not sure why people are calling this place a hostel. In Spanish they refer to it as a hostal, which is not the same as hostel. Anyway, it's a hotel - and the prices are certainly hotel prices, not hostel ones. However, for the price and based on the reviews, I was expecting something really amazing. Don't get me wrong, this place is fine, and the location is perfect. But just don't get your hopes up.

One of the coolest hotels in a great location
Hotel is in the heart of the old walled city. Tremendous and huge room, that was truly unique. Great staff and the roof has an awesome view. I would highly recommend.

It's located in the walled city, exactly where you want to be in Cartagena. The staff was very nice but did not speak much English. There was no hot water in the shower. We stayed in a private room (there are also communal rooms). Well, we thought we had a private room until we realized we were sharing it with a few lizards. If you are looking for something affordable in a good location, it's an ok option.

Cozy boutique hotel with amazing staff!
The Calamari Hostel (which is really not a hostel) was an amazing base for a great few days in Cartagena. The location can not be beat and the views from the rooftop are really beautiful. The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. The rooms are cozy and comfortable with surprisingly powerful showers. An absolutely phenomenal value for money!

We loved the room and the roof deck, and the location was fantastic. Unfortunately there was a plumbing issue in the room the one night we were there, and as a result had to check out early so it could get fixed. These things happen and the staff handled it well, but it's the reason for the medium ratings we gave.

You will not find a place better that Calamari for this price in the old city. This place will make you feel right at home, but like if you were living in the 16th century with hot water, AC and Internet. Tiny but extremely cute hotel a few blocks from everything you need to be doing when you visit Cartagena. The rooms have been superbly designed combining the really old furniture and exposed brick walls and the modern conveniences of a 5 star hotel. The staff is fantastic and the place is extremely clean and safe. Near great restaurants and bars, but the design of this place will allow for some quite time too when you go to your room of the amaziong terrace on the roof, whcih overlooks Cartagena Bay. These folks were extremely professional to deal with, not the usual small private hotel/hostal inexperienced business owner. They are on top of everything. Recommended 100%

La ubicación de este hostal es buenísima, Pero es lo único bueno que tiene, la habitación que nos dieron tenía un fuerte olor a humedad además no tenía ventana , aunque la habitación no estaba sucia, estaba mal mantenida , El techo ya no es de madera marrón o natural ahora el techo es blanco aunque se ve mal acabado y las paredes están pintadas con cuidado el baño es muy pequeño y la ducha no se ve limpia, lo que muestran las fotos no es lo que es en realidad. No volveré a este hotel

Schöne Zimmer in der Altstadt
Unser Zimmer hat uns sehr gut gefallen, besonders auch die Hängematte. Auch die Dachterrasse haben wir genossen. Das Hotelpersonal war sehr hilfsbereit. Morgens konnte man Kaffee und Cracker mit Marmelade bekommen. Am Wochenende hat nachts zum Teil die laute Musik in der Nachbarschaft gestört, aber ansonsten waren wir sehr zufrieden.

O endereço deve ser ajustado no site do Hotéis.com uma vez que no centro, as ruas possuem nomes e só são identificadas por isso. O nome da rua desse hostel é Ricaurte. O hostel é ótimo, a equipe é atenciosa e prestativa, a localização é ótima.

Ótima localização, dentro da cidade murada, funcionários atentos. O quarto era exatamente como descrito. Um excelente local para ficar, principalmente se a intenção é conhecer a cidade. O chuveiro não esquentava muito, mas ok. Falta um banheiro do hotel, caso precise usar depois de fazer o check out. Prédio antigo e muito conservado. Sem luxo, mas muito prático e charmoso. Obs.: Cobraram menos que o valor da reserva, pois descontaram impostos não aplicáveis a estrangeiros (tivemos que apresentar o carimbo de entrada no país). Muito satisfeito.

Localização Espetacular!
Hostel em estilo rústico e bem decorado. Não tem água quente e o banheiro tinha um cheirinho meio ruim, mas nada que atrapalhasse a nossa estadia. Para quem quer gastar pouco e não precisar de carro nem de taxi, este é o local!
