Hotel Universel Montreal

"The staff were lovely! This hotel needs updating. The bathroom had recently been updated and looked great but the room was showing its age. There was a visible gap between the door and the frame, which allowed all the noise from other guests to enter the room. This was significant as many young adults and teens were staying at the hotel while we were there."

"Decent hotel with nicely decorated rooms and comfy beds. We stayed here because it is close to Parc Jean-Drapeau and the metro station. Turns out that other concert fans had the same idea and flooded the metro station, causing an hour-and-fifteen-minute wait at the metro ticket machines - so questionable if the close proximity was actually a help. Sandman Hotel is one metro stop away from Jean Drapeau. Maintenance could be better (peeling wallpaper seams in the bedroom), although this was not a dealbreaker for me. Housekeeping was super nice (as was the front desk), but I had to request a room vacuum because of crushed chips left on the floor. Other trash (a Lindt chocolate bar wrapper and a spool of thread) was overlooked from the previous room guests. I would stay here again if it was the most convenient hotel nearby."

"The hotel has a wonderful location and very helpful staff. They have thoughtful amenities like lounge with fireplace, hot drinks and a pool table. This hotel is a series of 4 connected buildings with some stairs but no one explained this ( we are an older couple). Avoid lower floor, front rooms due to street noise ( daytime construction, noisy groups exiting a bar nearby)"

"The property is beautiful. The self parking garage is small...6ft..so if you have a larger vehicle your only other option is valet which is expensive...$60 a day. The room is lovely and quite possibly the most comfortable bed and pillows I have ever slept in. That being said, our room didn't get cleaned until nearly 4pm and they didn't take the trash and only left 2 towels for 4 people. The biggest problem we had was a large group of people with multiple children who ran rampant in the hotel. We went for drinks and dinner and to watch the hockey game and they were in the bar area and the children were running everywhere, sitting at all the clean tables, yelling and going in and out if the pool area into the bar leaving water everywhere. The waiter was nearly taken out a half a dozen times..the parents were at two different tables drinking paying no attention to the children's behavior. The bigger issu3 was the wait staff could not wait on any other customers because the two tables would call them over and request different services. We had one drink and waited almost 2 hours for a small pizza (which was wrong) and the waiter never came back for anything else...no dinner order no other drinks and no dessert. We did try to go to the bar numerous times for assistance but were told he'd be right over but never arrived. We also stopped at the front desk about the encounter and was told the manager would call our room but that too never happened."
