The main airport in Fiji is Nadi International. Located around six miles from the city of Nadi and 12 miles from Lautoka, it handles around 97% of the air traffic coming into the archipelago. As well as being a hub for Fiji Airways, the airport is served by a number of other airlines and offers regular services to New Zealand, Australia and destinations across Asia.
From the airport you can continue your journey to your hotel by taxi or shuttle. If you’re staying on a neighbouring island, you’ll need to catch a connecting flight or take a local ferry to your destination.
Buses and taxis are available on most of Fiji’s larger islands, making it easy to get out and explore. A number of minivans also offer services between hotels and nearby attractions. Many Fijians drive small trucks, known as carriers, around local destinations. These have seating areas in the back and can be a quick and affordable way to get about.
If you’re planning on traveling between islands, you can either fly or use Fiji’s limited ferry service. Some water taxis and private charters are also available however these can be expensive.
Mother Nature is responsible for many of the most famous sights and attractions in Fiji.
To see some of the most beautiful landscapes the country has to offer, head to the Mamanuca Islands. A volcanic archipelago to the west of Nadi, the islands are famous for their bright coral reef and clear waters.
Another stunning spot is Monuriki Island. A fantastic place for snorkelling, sun bathing and getting close to nature, this uninhabited island is the archetypal tropical paradise.
If you’d like to find out a little more about the country’s history and culture, take a trip to the Fiji Museum. Located in Suva, it’s part of the Botanical Gardens and is well worth a visit during your stay in Fiji.
