Party island, beach haven, culinary centre – there's not much about Koh Samui that's not to like. Which might explain why it's one of the most popular destinations in Thailand.
There is no real best time to visit Koh Samui, as the climate makes year-round holidays a possibility.
However, it does depend on what you want to do during your trip. For snorkelling and diving, the best time of year is between December and March. The rainy season between October and November is perhaps the best time for finding cheap flights, but not guaranteed weather.

As in many Thai resorts, motorbikes and scooters are available for rent and the road network on Koh Samui is generally good. However, there are also plenty of taxis around day and night. Just make sure you haggle and establish a price before you get in as drivers can be reluctant to use the meter. Pick-up trucks known as songthaews also run regular services around the area.
Koh Samui is a big island and blessed with an exceptional choice of beaches. Some of the most popular include Mae Nam, Laem Yai, Bang Rak and Choeng Mon. While some beaches have suffered from over development in recent years, others remain quiet and peaceful, untouched by the worst excesses of tourism. Elsewhere on the island you'll find temples, gardens and aquariums to explore.
