This place was amazing. We stayed in Eliza’s Manor for 3 nights and the rooms were beautifully decorated and appointed.
The staff was very accommodating and friendly. We would definitely come back to Christchurch and stay again at Eliza’s Manor
Particularly the maitre d'who insured the meet and greet and always said hello during our stay, the staff were friendly and remembered our faces and made a point of making us feel special, the service that was provided was good old-fashioned service of a high calibre which is not often seen today, I would thoroughly recommend this venue as your first choice for a stay. The rooms were oversized and if you've ever stayed at a venue where the shower is too small this is not the case the showers were enormous and the water pressure was excellent. I will definitely make the man are my number one first choice of stay every time I am in Christchurch, regards Michael Boulgaris.

I stayed at the hotel one night (May 11, 2020). When I received my bank statement following the trip, I realized they had charged my credit card twice (once on May 11 and once on May 12). I reached out to Eliza’s Manor by email twice to get this rectified and did not receive a reply either time.

Thank you for your feed back, we are sorry you are unhappy, due the world events we tried as hard as possible to get this sorted for you and we do apologize for this upsetting experience that occurred.
We have since remedied this situation and have made sure this will not be happening again.
We arrived as NZ went to level 3 for the corona virus and announced level 4 for the next day. We were treated at the hotel to be told they had seen their staff home with the exception of the night porter. Our booking included breakfast which we were advised would not be available. No chef and no food (I had offered to cook it myself.) I checked on Expedia and they were still offering rooms to book but at a big discount to our price. I asked it we would get a discount, at least for the canceled breakfasts, but got a very firm and somewhat impolite NO. First morning the night porter opened the dining room and we used that to eat some supplies we had brought with us. We even managed to get access to a toaster to make toast. This room was not available to us the second morning and we believe the porter was reprimanded for letting us use it the first day. Under different circumstances I’m sure it is a very nice place but the management needs an attitude adjustment.

The location was good. We walked to Botanical Gardens and Riverside Market. The beds were comfortable. It is an older home so there are low ceilings and narrow steps to room. Enjoyed our stay.

The property is very nice and the rooms are clean. Our room was not available when we arrived and the manager was very accommodating to store our luggage while we explored Christchurch. I would stay here again.

Good location. Staff was nice but room was dated. Bed was spongy and sunk in the middle. Common area very sparse and could be more inviting with areas to sit and have a glass of wine. Breakfast basic.

I was really disappointed that the room was nothing like the ones shown on the website for that type of room. I had thought there was a bath. Bathroom had no where to put toilet bags.

Very friendly, helpful staff. Lots of ambience, historic property. I was upgraded to Eliza's room, which is a king suite with a lovely sitting area and a window seat. Much appreciated for curling up with a book and a cup of tea on a cold, wet day. Casey arranged my taxi, found me a phone charger and just made my stay easy. Walking distance to city centre.

This place seems to be riding on its reputation as an event venue more than its strength as an accommodation.
There is nothing wrong with it (except that if you are not participating in an event they are hosting, you might hear the event until 10pm), but nothing great about it either.

Classic heritage style hotel with clean, well mantained and beautifully decorated room. The service was excellent and very detail oriented. We got free late checkout and late breakfast, very happy staying there.

The stairs were a bit hard to navigate with luggage but it wouldn’t stop me from going back. The mansion was charming and the staff so friendly.

Thank you very much for choosing Eliza's Manor. We are truly sorry for any inconvenience. Your booking was put on hold because your payment card on line was invalid, we tried to contact you by emails but with failures. Genuinely look forward to your next stay.
I booked Eliza's Manor through Expedia using my American Express card. Upon arrival, I was informed that they do not accept American Express. Their machinery was unable to process either of my Visa Cards. I was required to walk 8 blocks to one of the other properties that the owners of Eliza's Manor at which location they could process my American Express.
In fact my booking was far enough in advance that there was more than enough time for Expedia to inform me that Eliza's does not take American Express. There is no excuse for the trouble caused. Either you should know that they refuse American Express and not booked with them with that credit card.
There other services were totally below par. For example, there was no hot water in our room upon our arrival even though the room had been rented the day before. There are no hotel employees on the premises after 7 PM even though the policy is to close the doors at 8 PM. The room rented to us was entirely inappropriate for senior citizens having a poorly lit, poorly marked curving stairway to our room which was marked approppriately " Servant's Quarters"!
This property should be rated at best one star if you wish to continue carrying them.

Hi there, First of all we appreciated your choosing Eliza's, and we also genuinely feel sorry that we disappointed you and failed to exceed your expectation. We are sorry for not accepting American Express card, thus we asked one of our other properties to charge your card. Thus being located about 600 metres from us after you had tried a few times on your other credit card which you mentioned they didn't work at other places in New Zealand too. Our employee went above and beyond and asked if they could take you there but you wanted to walk. To rectify the situation they helped by taking you into the CBD for your travelling. And we have already reflected American Express payment request to our head office. It is our responsibility to cater to our guests' needs the best way we can. For the hot water, our manager went to your room checked and found there was a button been turned off in bathroom thus caused the gas not to heat the water, this is a safety switch, she fixed it straight away. Eliza's Manor Boutique Hotel is well-known as a Historic Building over a hundred years. It was firstly built as a private home that's why our 8 rooms all kept their classic names on the door giving guest the knowledge of what the rooms would've been used for and by who they would have been used.
Again we are sorry that we as a B&B Hotel have left you feeling this way, Be assured we are working very hard for the future to not have this happen again. We thank you again for your review and have actioned all that you have put forward to us.

Enjoyable time. The hotel was in a good location. Our welcome was incredible. Casey, the hostess, was great. She provided us with a lot of information and she was fun to visit with. The botanical garden was the highlight. Also enjoyed "punting" on the Avon and a drive out to Lyttleton where we ate dinner overlooking the harbor.

Its a really beautiful building advertised as a boutique B&B and priced at the higher end of the scale, so we were expecting something a little extra. Seeing a barista coffee machine on arrival, we tried to get the attention of the young girl behind the counter who was wearing headphones, to ask for coffee. She disappeared having not asked us what we wanted and returned with two white instant coffees. My partner drinks black. We were a little speechless.
The room was lovely and the bed was very comfortable, but there was no soap in the bathroom. They had also advertised complimentary biscuits which were missing. Breakfast was satisfactory.
Over all it was over priced for the experience. We think some training of staff wouldn't go amiss and some attention to detail would benefit. We probably won't return.

The young lady you mentioned in the reviews just came in for her afternoon shift when you ran into each other. I assume she did not want to keep you waiting for long time, so she did not get changed and served you coffee a bit abruptly. Sorry for this unprofessional service experience. Additionally, we felt sorry we did not put the cookies and enough soap in the room; your reviews will be highly valued for our future improvement. Our brand new team just got set up 3 months, and we will for sure pay more attention to training. Any suggestions helping us progress will be valued and appreciated! We still look forward to attending you next if you would like to come back.

Historical building - reasonable location - nearby resturants and good walk to city center. Staff helpful and pleasant. Good place for wedding but as an overnight a little expensive. Breakfast is modest.
