"On arrival The Monmouth looked fabulous, the lady on reception was polite and friendly as was all of the staff in the bar and breakfast room, thank you for making us welcome. Our room was upstairs over the top of the reception area, we were not offered any help to get our bags upstairs, the stairs and outside balcony could do with maintenance they are very rickety. We found our room clean, but small, it needs some tender care to bring it back into shape by updating the bath and shower. Before dinner we went for a drink at the bar and sat outside in the courtyard, the tables had not been cleaned for some time and were dirty. We dined in 1881 restaurant which we found disappointing, the staff all seemed stressed, and it felt like they were short staffed. The meal was just okay, nothing like what we expected. The wine list was good, but unfortunately not well stocked as two of our choices were not available. Tables were being cleared and reset around us, and it felt like we were in the way. Not the quiet romantic setting we had hoped for! We walked the grounds before dinner. The grounds looked as though they had had no care in a long time. In summary, it is a sad and neglected property that at one time must have been absolutely beautiful. Unfortunately we feel that the accommodation and restaurant did not live up to expectations or value for money. "

"The lobby was beautifully put together. The front desk attendant was nice, but I didn’t appreciate being told they didn’t have water after I used my card for incidentals. I had a long day of driving to find out they didn’t have water to shower, which majorly inconvenienced me and my coworker. "

"This property is okay for a night. The bathroom was clean, the bedroom was tidy but not clean. The sheets were just thrown on. the bed with the bed skirt hanging off. The carpet throughout the hotel is filthy. Just pull it up already and put down laminate flooring. You can still using a vacuum. There was a refrigerator in the room but no microwave. There should at least be a microwave in the lobby. Front desk staff and breakfast crew were friendly and competent. Breakfast choices: cereal, juices, grits, eggs, french toast,sausage links and patties and a staple in the South. . . .Community Coffee. If they spent just a few dollars on replacing the carpet it would be 5 star! "

"I paid for the room on hotels.com Nobody was at the check in office, & it was closed! So we I had to book another hotel. They done took my money off my card as well. I need a refund!"

"Breakfast was amazing the coffee was great not too weak and the buffet bar stayed full and had turkey sausage a big plus in my book because I don’t eat pork. Breakfast bar and lobby clean and modern. The room was not as nice it had stained dirty looking carpet and the bathroom tub was gross. And the bathroom door at the bottom was discolored due to water damage "
