"I was visiting Painted Canyon and decided to stay at this little hotel. It was worth the 1.5 hr drive. It’s an old-fashioned place but they have done everything possible to make sure the comfort level is 5 star. I walked into a spacious, clean, comfortable room with a well-appointed bathroom — little bottles of shampoo, conditioner and body wash. Bathrobes, hanging in the wardrobe — and one of the most comfortable hotel beds I’ve slept in. I arrived around 8pm and no one was on the desk. A quick call brought the hotel clerk down and she quickly checked me in and showed me around. Each floor on this 3 story hotel has its own lounge area with teas, a microwave and a fridge.
Condon is a tiny town, so there’s not much in the way of restaurants. But the hotel has a chef in a few days a week to prepare dinners, and I was in luck, the chef was there. I had the most amazing asparagus and cauliflower soup with delicious home-baked bread.
I’m a light sleeper so finding a quiet room can be a challenge. But this hotel might as well have been completely sound-proofed. I slept through the night, which is unusual for me when I travel.
The continental breakfast was generous, and I found options for my diet (low-sugar oatmeal, berries and an egg).
The drive to from Painted Canyon to the hotel was along the Geological Scenic Highway, and it was breathtakingly beautiful. There are vibrantly colored layers of volcanic ash, siltstone, mud"
