The Diplomat Hotel and Spa

"I considered giving this hotel 3โ3.5 stars, but the excellent staff genuinely lift it to a solid 4. We stayed three nights in early August with our two children and had a large room with two king beds. Housekeeping missed two items (a glass of stale cider and a pair of socks), which the receptionist quickly resolved. Otherwise, the room and bathroom were spacious and comfortable. Breakfast had limited vegetarian options, but the teamโespecially Gainsleyโlooked after us brilliantly, providing vegetarian sausages daily and remembering our needs. Dinner also included thoughtful offโmenu vegetarian dishes. My wife enjoyed a relaxing massage, and although the pool is small, it was fine during our stay. The main issue was the mattresses in Room 51, which were extremely squeakyโloud enough to wake us despite being heavy sleepers. With two kids moving around, restful sleep was difficult. We raised this at checkout and suggested staff test the beds themselves. Despite this, the staff are outstandingโwarm, proactive, and genuinely caring. Fixing housekeeping lapses and replacing those mattresses would make the stay significantly better."

"It is a real find when looking for somewhere to stay in Wales. It is a Very quirky wedding / conference / restraunt venue. The food was excellent, and as the place is a little out of the way, it was great to be able to enjoy a meal and a lovely breakfast in situ! Great views at the back of the property but it is on a main road."

"The hotel is well maintained and presented. It feels recently refurbed. The room was good and the bed was super comfy! We had a rear facing room and it was very peaceful. The staff were bright and cheerful from the moment they met us to the moment we departed - thatโs all staff, by the way, that we met. The entrance to the car park is tight but fine if you go slow and reverse a little to square up for the drive in. Excellent shopping / anmenities in town too. Overall, a very pleasant place for us to stay while visiting family locally. Will use again!"

"This country inn is great stop off for south wales with great food and the rooms, although a bit tired in places - couple of carpet stains and pulls and a teeny tiny bathroom with a wobbly cold tap - it was clean and the bed and bedding very comfortable. Breakfast was from 9:30 so not convenient if youโre stopping off on business and need an early start! Staff all very friendly and helpful. My room was above the outdoor garden benches so a bit noisy until closing time but itโs a pub so to be expected."

"It is a unique property a hotel with no reception area. But the rooms were clean. The lady who cleaned the rooms was lovely. Text messages were responded to timely. We didnโt have any issues while we were there. We actually extended our stay."
