"This is what in France is known as a 'hôtel de charme," which means that it occupies an older, sometimes historical building. As such it does have distinctly more character than chain hotels; in this case, a central yard/garden is the main element of charm. Although the bathroom in our suite had been redone, other aspects were betraying the property's age, notably the lack of ventilation and absence of air conditioning, which have become crucial issues in the past few years when most areas of France experience intense heat waves ("canicules") over the summer. The management did put tabletop fans in the room, but when temperatures remain in the high eighties (or nineties) at night, that falls a bit short. Quaint also means no soundproofing, no elevator (and there are many steps to negotiate, even if your room is on the ground floor), and opening hours that require precise timing for checking in and out. Having breakfast in the garden/courtyard also sound charming, were it not for the swarm of bees that falls upon the table when jam and fruit are brought out. We also had to indicate a precise time to have breakfast. While none of these issues were catastrophic, this hotel really is best for travelers who place a high premium on quaintness and charm, over convenience (including parking nearby). Everyone on the staff was extremely friendly and helpful, which came as a real plus."

"Beautiful property, stylish decor and excellent hosts. Great location in the lovely town of Rochefort. Breakfast was tasty and plentiful. The pool was a very welcome amenity particularly in the heatwave!"

"Disappointed to find that Wi-Fi was not available in room, as that meant no access to UK radio. Reception staff were very helpful and explained how things worked, as obviously written instructions were in French."

"The room was very clean with exceptional extras. The only thing missing was milk for the coffee. The staff were very helpful and friendly and the food in the breakfast area and restaurant were excellent. My only comment as a non fish eater, there could have been a few additional choices on the menu for dinner."

"We had an amazing stay at Hotel Napoleon. Franck and the rest of the team were so friendly and helpful. The Ile itself is incredible and made all the more special by being able to stay in such a great hotel which also has a really nice restaurant We will definitely be back later in the year to continue our adventures"

"First of all, the staff were fantastic, super helpful. The room was a little tight, but there was loads of storage space and a built in wardrobe. Great bathroom and super nice. There is a gorgeous pool, sauna and hamman, all inclusive. Wow, hadn’t expected these, ver impressive. Location is perfect, nice and quiet but close to the Vauban fort. Fully enclosed courtyard and a classy bar. Lots of choice for breakfast."
