Amazing lodge
Lot of wildlife comes to camp especially in the evenings. Shepard can take you on all or half day game drives. He is a great guide. Food is excellent and also service and atmosphere of lodge. Highly recommended is a great experience.

Probably the best place I've stayed in!
This place has to be seen to be believed! It's an eco-lodge, so no television, but why do you need a television when you walk outside and look at animals drinking at the waterhole, or have a warm shower outside watching the scenery. The food is first class, the service and friendliness brilliant. If you want noise and excitement, then it's not for you, but safari's, animals and simply stunning scenery, service and food, then you'll enjoy it.

Game Lodge just outside Hwange National Park, Dete
Elephants Eye Safari Lodge is set in its own concession a short distance from Hwange Main Camp. It took 2 hours to self drive from Victopria Falls airport and the road was very good, though there were the usual villages to pass through, with the attendant goats/cows/donkeys along the road. Hwange itself is a huge park and we saw lots of animals including Lion and Cheetah. The pinted dogs and leopards were a bit more elusive. We had awesome elephant encounters in Elephants Eye itself, including the first night when a herd of 30 or more came to drink at the waterhole (and from the swimming pool 5M from where we were dining al fresco). It was the wet season, so the vegetation was very lush and it thunderstormed every day, but still a very good experience. The accommodation was amazing, with screens that opened up floor to ceiling so that you could lie on the very comfortable king bed and see everything on the plain in front of the chalet. The shower was on the verandah, discreetly screened but completely open to the plain in front. Food and drink was excellent, and the staff couldn't be more polite or helpful.

New lodge, very comfortable
The tented accommodation is new (5 months old) so the rooms are clean and spacious. The bathrooms are open plan (including the toilet) so you need to know any room mates intimately. The open-air shower is a really neat idea, it faces the watering hole and feels very private...if you don't mind the impala watching you shower! There is also a bath inside the tent. The only downside was the electricity blackouts....I know this can't be helped in Zimbabwe but surely the generators for the main lodge could be extended to the eight tents? I had to wake up at 5am for a safari and grope around in pitch black to get dressed and washed which wasn't fun for a woman afraid of spiders! Each room has a small solar lamp but this was insufficient in a large tent and gave a very low volt light. Food was lovely, the other guests were fun company and the staff couldn't do enough to help. One small thing...On departure, two very small women were sent to collect my big, heavy cases when there were 3 large male members of staff on site....I felt awful handing my cases to these girls who seemed smaller than my luggage...a little chivalry needed. Amazing location just outside Hwange national park and surrounded by park land and wildlife on their private concession. If you are a bird watcher this place would be paradise but we also saw baboon, buffalo and impala close to the lodge and all other big game in Hwange park (10-15 min drive away).
