Downham Market Ranches

St Mary's church - tower and porch St Mary's is judged by architectural historians to be of Saxon origin. The church is built of carstone and flint and has a round tower with an octagonal top, believed to once have been higher. Interestingly, the tower has no stairs as in very early times ladders were used to access the upper floors which explains the doorways in the east and west walls. An archway of Saxon construction links the tower to the nave. The font dates from the 14th century. There are two Saxon windows in the north and south walls. During the 19th century the windows were changed - a lancet window was being put in the north wall and on the south side two early English and Perpendicular windows were blocked up and another lancet window was added where there had been an early English window. The church was restored and the floor was retiled during Victorian times.

"We had a truly wonderful stay at The Packhorse Inn. We stayed in Warren Room which was really lovely a very comfortable bed and a fantastic bathroom. Areas of the room and the hallway leading to it are a little tired looking stained carpet and areas of paintwork could be refreshed. The food was absolutely amazing we had roast beef and sticky date pudding for our meal. Lovely service the waiter was very helpful and attentive. Breakfast was also very good the staff looking after us were so helpful and nothing was too much trouble. We will definitely return! "

Good location only a few minutes walk into the town. First time in Kings Lynn and we were very pleasantly surprised with the town"

The spa has a number of different hot and cold experiences which were all excellent. We stayed in the spa loft room with cinema baths and dart board area.
