"The room was clean and the location convenient but it was difficult to find initially. There was no soap in the room or enough toilet roll so it would have been good to have been warned that I would need these. The shower head was broken. There was a kitchenette but an incomplete set of cutlery and limited crockery. At the cost of the room though I would have expected these things to be provided."

The Black Bull Inn

10/10 Excellent

"A great one night stop over on our return to York from the Island of Skye. After 8 hours travelling the inn was a welcome sight. Staff lovely. Bar well stocked. Food excellent - can recommend the Venison Pie! Breakfast was great too. Plenty to fill up with. Prices were very good too. Only tiny gripe was the room was a little too warm. No air conditioning (which we didn’t expect it to have) but a fan would have been an improvement. We would definitely stay again if we are in the area."

Dryburgh Abbey Hotel

"Good size room with a private bathroom and a lovely view. Free parking and access to the River Tweed for Trout fishing. Excellent evening meal and conscientious staff. Plenty of choice for a continental breakfast and a selection of cooked breakfast options. Very pleasant surroundings and with access to Dryburgh Abbey ruins albeit for an admission fee. You can walk along the river Tweed by walking out of the main gates and turning left to enjoy a circular walk. Would definitely recommend a visit to this lovely hotel and its surroundings, it is very peaceful and tranquil!"

10/10 Excellent

"Stayed here previously. Quiet room, comfy bed. Had our evening meal here, both had steak pie, very tasty and a bottle of red wine. Two bottles of water in room, plenty tea and coffee and one pack biscuits. We has booked breakfast the following morning, you pre-order the items the night before. We had a fruit yogurt and an actimel drink, orange juice. Tasty breakfast. We had toast and jam afterwards. Only downside was the filter coffee wasn't very strong."

"This hotel is in a great location and although a bit shabby now, was clean . The bed was not very comfortable and the bedding was compacted so somewhat heavy. Breakfast was good and tasty. Help yourself to tea or coffee but coffee not hot. Receptionist was very friendly and welcoming on arrival. We enjoyed a drink beside the river."

Balcary House Hotel

6/10 Okay

"Tap and pay doesn't work. No problem with the system apparently. Taxi driver told us it is a signal blackspot. Water from room taps is nonpotable. Single bottle of water provided for two people for hot drinks and cold drinks - make your choice. Two main staff - one smiling and helpful. One clearly views you as an inconvenience. Not much choice locally but think carefully."
