Lodge Las Estrellas de Samara
5/5 Excellent
Really cool experience
"We really enjoyed staying here. After booking primarily at traditional hotels through Costa Rica during our vacation, we thought it would be cool to try something different. Estrellas is more of a small boutique BnB with amazing views, deep in the Samara hills. Be prepared, I highly advise having a 4x4, we made the mistake of booking a sedan on our trip and deeply regretted it. Driving up to this lodge is a tad tricky, but would have been so much easier with a better vehicle. Nathan was great and provided us with good beach and kayak ideas, as well as fantastic breakfasts. He even had a friend pick up our dinner one night. I really admire what they’ve built up there in the hills above Samara, and I think it’s worth checking out on your trip. Side note, we also really liked the Samara area, it might have been our favorite on our trip."

Casa Taupe
4/5 Good
"Hung up in unbelievable traffic in Santa Cruz, I was not able to check into the hotel until 7 AM the next day when they reopened. So I don't have the overnight experience one expects.
That said, the room was very clean, the shower had good hot water, and I did get a morning nap on the bed. Fort7nately, it is off the road a bit. But noise carries and young Costa Ricans love their motorcycles. So if you are super noise sensitive that might bother you, but the traffic is really light on that road in the night time."
