Hotel on the Cay

6/10 Okay

"We stayed eight nights and it was okay. I was shocked by the fact that guests have to pay twenty dollars a day to use an umbrella on the beach, and you only get one free lounger, your travel partner will have to pony up 15 bucks. No coffee maker in any of the rooms. Our sliding glass door to the balcony was broken, and we only had WiFi in our room for about 5 minutes the entire time. The pictures are very inaccurate, the place is in shambles from hurricane damage and it’s a bit depressing when you’re trying to enjoy a vacation. I read that there was construction/renovation happening, but I wasn’t expecting such disarray. On the plus side, it was fun taking the ferry into town and checking out the shops and restaurants. The staff is great and Joan at the front desk was very kind and helpful."

"This was nothing like the photos and very disappointing. The room was moldy and dark. The safety latch on the door was broken and so was the lock. We put things in front of the door while we slept because it didn't feel safe there. There were several men wandering the property and we didn't know if they worked there or not. I opened the curtains to the patio in the morning to check the view and their was a guy sitting outside the window eating his breakfast. When we went for coffee and breakfast, the coffee machine was empty and by coffee machine I mean the Keurig at the serve yourself station at the restaurant. The breakfast was pretty bad too. The only good thing was the view but the beach was full of weeds and unusable. Stay far away. We left after the first day because it was that bad."

"Very friendly and helpful staff throughout the resort including the pro shop at the golf course. Room was exactly as pictured and expected ! Breakfast choices were plentiful. Beaches were spectacular , and for someone that has been coming down to STX for 30 years - among the best on the island. All of the restaurants were excellent and we ate at all of them. The Welcome Experience on Tuesday night and meeting the owner was refreshing and perfect. The Buccaneer is a must stay!"

"Absolutely gorgeous boutique hotel, the rooms were beautifully decorated, this hotel is mostly for couples, if you are planning to go with friends I advise you to make sure there are double bed rooms available (this was my mistake, not theirs), the owners are amazing, very approachable and quick to respond, EXCELLENT customer service."
