Explore the ancient rainforests and countless waterways of this coastal town, from scenic estuaries and sheltered beaches to refreshing rivers and wild surf breaks.

Bordered by stunning North Coast beaches and curving estuarine foreshore, Forster is an idyllic holiday location for adventure and relaxation on the water. Explore magnificent ocean beaches, the Great Lakes Region and Wallis Lake. Bushwalk along mountain trails, go on dolphin-watching tours and taste fresh Wallis Lake oysters.

Visit Forster Main Beach. This exceptional family-friendly beach has good surf breaks, an ocean bath, rock pools and shallow lagoons. Take kids to nearby Burgess Beach or One Mile Beach, the latter patrolled by lifeguards during summer. McBrides Beach offers a secluded cove in Booti Booti National Park however, this beach is unpatrolled. Hunt for the best surf breaks along Pebbly Beach or Seven Mile Beach, which begins at Cape Hawke and extends to Booti Hill.

Try deep-sea fishing or go whale watching in winter. Check out the scenic waterways around Wallis Lake and the Wallamba River, which feeds into Forster’s beautiful surrounding estuary. Kayak across the still lake or join a charter boat tour.

Discover Forster’s contemporary Aboriginal culture at Tobwabba Art, an indigenous owned and operated collective that promotes and supports the region’s talented artists. Try fresh oysters from Wallis Lake farms, paired with a glass of regional wine.

Forster is close to breathtaking natural reserves, including the Booti Booti National Park and its ancient rainforests, pristine beaches and headlands. Hike through littoral rainforest to the summit of Mount Hawke and be rewarded with panoramic North Coast views.

Forster is located in the North Coast region of New South Wales. It is 308 kilometres (191 miles) from Sydney and accessible via regional bus and train, as well as by plane to nearby Taree Airport. Stay in ocean-fronting hotels and self-contained cabins or try camping by the main beach and in the national park. The array of beaches and watersports attractions makes Forster a great summer holiday location. Alternatively, enjoy a quieter winter experience in the stunning Great Lakes and North Coast regions.
