About Goa

For many visitors, the beaches of Goa are the best holiday destination in the world. Beaches are spread out along the Arabian Sea coastline for more than 120kms from the northernmost at Arambol to the south at Talpona. Goa is not lacking in cultural and historic attractions either with highlights that include the World Heritage Bom Jesus Basilica and Fort Tiracol.

Don’t Miss

Goa’s beaches all have different personalities that suit different kinds of visitors. The area at the back of Baga Beach is party central and suits younger visitors. South Anjuna and Calangute are close by and alternate options for those who don’t wish to be so near the action.

Arambol, Mandrem and Candolim in the north and Benaulim and Colva in the south are the best beaches for those wishing to relax or enjoy a romantic break. The selection of activities is good too. All beaches offer great swimming, while dolphin-spotting, diving and snorkelling trips are the popular choices in select locations.

Colva is famed for the beautiful Our Lady of Mercy Church. Bom Jesus Basilica, St Francis of Assisi's Church and Se Cathedral are all located at Old Goa and high on the lists of places to visit for tourists. Panjim is the capital of Goa and its attractions include Church Square, 18th June Road, Adilshahi Palace and the nearby beaches at Dona Paula, Miramar and Bambolim.

Restaurants and Bars

Goa is one of the best places in India for a delicious meal. A mix of fresh seafood, Indian and Portuguese cooking styles and dishes from other countries including Greece and Mexico offers wonderful choices. A good proportion of the eateries occupy prime beachside locations. Biriani solachi kadi and mouth-burning vindaloo curries plus the dangar fishcakes are the flagships of local dishes. Pancakes, beer and fruit shakes are found on many menus. Tito's Lane in Baga is nightclub central with famous names such as Café Mambo and Cape Town.

Shopping

There are shops selling souvenirs at all of the main beach resorts in Goa. Shoppers can buy colourful cotton sarongs, loose trousers and T-shirts. Religious statues, woodcarvings, bead necklaces, pictures, plates and even Goan cooking herbs are among other items. A trip to the Wednesday market in Anjuna is a must for tourists. Panjim’s 18th June Road has quite a few upmarket shops for a more peaceful shopping experience.
