"Once we actually managed to locate the hotel everything was fine. Nice room and very quiet hotel with friendly staff.
Problem was finding it! The only building we could find with St James on it was closed up. Eventually we realised from searching Google photos that the hotel was across the street with a new name on it! They were in the middle of rebranding to a Marriot hotel! Advance warning of this would have been useful both to us and the three other parties we assisted during our stay. Poor communication. Having said that I’d be happy to stay again as it was a reasonable price and in a good location."
"Pleasant stay but black hairs in bath, crack in sink.
No onsite parking even though message sent before stay asking about parking to be told there was on site parking this was actually in multi storey which cost £36"
"Lovely hotel, we were travelling with dog and they had dog bed and bowls in room. Dog allowed in bar area so we had food there.
Staff friendly and acted swiftly to replace feather pillow"
"We had a lovely 2 night stay at the Beeches. We had an evening meal too wgich was excellent.
Lots of variety at breakfast - which is self service. Delicious croissants and fresh fruit and yoghurt, cereal too.
They have thought carefully about the hear too with a large fan in the room and ice water on arrival."
"Overall we had a great time and for the price we paid I do feel it was great value for money.
Pros: friendly staff, clean room, great food, great history of the building and the pool and steam room was amazing. Breakfast was superb!
Cons: (but nothing bad that would stop me going again just slight tweaks I feel would help) grounds are amazing but need some attention, sauna was either not working properly or was simply running too low, food and staff in Huntleys restaurant were fab however the room the restaurant in is so nice little things like wires hanging down the wall and seats where the view was let it down, the space could be used a lot better.
I feel it’s a solid high end 3 star hotel and misses the critical touches of a 4 star however I’ve given it a 4 purely down to the staff as they were so accommodating."
"Although the hotel is a little 'tired', the facilities with the pool and jacuzzi etc are a welcome treat, and I have no hesitation to come back again. The staff are very helpful and they accommodated my request for a ground floor room, which I appreciated. My superior room was very dated decor wise, and smaller than the last one I had at this hotel, but the bed was comfy and the corner whirlpool bath was a lovely surprise.
Breakfast was OK, a reasonable choice, but they have stopped offering fruit, or bagels, or philadelphia pots .. which used to be my 'go to' choice. Lunch and evening meals offer good sized portions and are very nice (if a little expensive).
Overall a great stay, whilst the pool is there I will be back."
