"Lovely economy room. Well decorated and comfortable. The room was extremely small and I habitually banged my arms getting in and out of the bathroom. There was no natural light as the window was obscured by a wall. It was cosy and snug ... even though there were inconveniences, I would still stay here again and again. The location, the staff and the public areas made this a truly wonderful experience. The room and hotel was spotlessly clean and the breakfast demonstrated excellent attention to detail.
I also asked for a kettle and this was immediately brought to my room, so service was exceptional.

![La Cour des Voraces est une cour d'immeuble lyonnais, cĂ©lĂšbre pour son monumental escalier de façade de six Ă©tages (escalier Ă volĂ©es libres). C'est une impressionnante traboule qui permet de passer du 9 de la place Colbert au 14 de la montĂ©e de Saint-SĂ©bastien ou au 29 rue Imbert-ColomĂšs. SituĂ©e sur les pentes de la Croix-Rousse, la Cour des Voraces est un symbole lyonnais. Construite vers 18401, c'est un bel exemple dâune architecture populaire dite « canuse », liĂ©e Ă l'industrie de la soie qui a profondĂ©ment marquĂ© le quartier. Mais c'est Ă©galement un lieu qui symbolise quelques grands moments de l'histoire lyonnaise. La rĂ©volte des Canuts[modifier | modifier le code] Une plaque commĂ©morative indique que « Dans la cour des Voraces, ruche du travail de la soie, les canuts luttaient pour leurs conditions de vie et leur dignitĂ© ». La cour des Voraces tient certainement son nom d'un groupe d'ouvriers canuts nommĂ©s les Voraces, qui s'illustrĂšrent par leurs insurrections rĂ©publicaines de 1848 et 1849.
On raconte que la Cour des Voraces (Ă©galement appelĂ©e « Maison de la RĂ©publique ») a servi de refuge aux ouvriers canuts lors de leurs rĂ©voltes3. Cette cour devint cĂ©lĂšbre, dit-on, par une bataille qui opposa les canuts aux soldats de l'armĂ©e rĂ©guliĂšre[rĂ©f. nĂ©cessaire]. Compte tenu de la date de construction, il peut s'agir de combats ayant eu lieu lors de la seconde insurrection des Voraces4 en 1849. Une autre hypothĂšse est Ă©voquĂ©e : lâimmeuble aurait abritĂ© la loge dâune organisation mutualiste de Canuts : le Devoir mutuel. Le mot « DĂ©voirant » - câest-Ă -dire les membres du Devoir mutuel -, dĂ©formĂ©, a fini par donner le mot « Voraces ». Il se dit aussi que le mot "voraces" est issu du fait que ces canuts luttaient contre la diminution du volume du pot de vin. En effet le pot de vin devenait de plus en plus petit, mais le prix restait inchangĂ©. (cf. Les Voraces (Lyon)) Seconde guerre mondiale.
Pendant la Seconde Guerre mondiale, les traboules lyonnaises, lieux sombres et secrets (peu connus des Ă©trangers) dont la configuration favorisait les activitĂ©s clandestines, ont permis aux rĂ©seaux de rĂ©sistance dâĂ©chapper Ă la surveillance de l'occupant allemand. La Cour des Voraces est souvent Ă©voquĂ©e comme symbole de cette rĂ©sistance5.
