Hallbergmoos is in the district of Freising in Bavaria and has around 10,000 inhabitants. Take the S8 line on the S-Bahn from Munich Hauptbahnhof (main train station) and you will reach Hallbergmoos in half an hour. In 1831 it was declared an independent district. Hallbergmoos was expanded in 1945 with the integration of the newly built Goldbach housing development and it continued to grow shortly after with the building of an airport. Birkeneck is an idyllic quarter in the northeast of Hallbergmoos with a listed castle that has become an establishment for young people in need of help today. The other city districts are Erching, Brandstadl, Zwillingshof, Mariabrunn and Fischerhof.
The history of the Upper Bavarian region stretches back to the time of the Freising prince bishop. On your mini-break in Hallbergmoos you have to visit the prince bishop’s castle, which is still in good condition. Erching, in the northwest, is the oldest district. During your city trip to Hallbergmoos take a walk around the luscious green landscape of Erching Castle, which was built at the command of the bishop of Freising in the 17th century. The Baroque-style ruler’s building has three storeys and is moated by a circular pond. Next to the castle you can visit St. Ottilien Chapel which has an interesting polygonal steeple.
On your short trip to Hallbergmoos visit St. Theresia’s Catholic Parish Church located on Theresienstraße. The architect, Joseph D. Ohlmüller, built the church in the 19th century. The Classical brickwork hall and the style of the vestry give away the church’s Italian style. Just a few paces from the church on Theresienstraße you will find a war memorial in memory of the victims of the Franco-German war of 1870 and both world wars. Look out for the large monument with two characteristic bronze lion statues and a granite obelisk.
