  • A few kilometres downstream from Lake Taupo the river changes to some rapids for a short distance. When the rapids finish there is a drop which creates a waterfall. It all ends with this scene which is stunning. Only a 30 second walk from the car park to the river this shot was taken about a 5 minute walk further downstream on the main track at sunrise.

  • I would not usually consider a garden a must-see experience, but I am really glad a local told us to visit Hamilton Gardens. The experience of wandering through a maze of hedges that open into perfectly cultivated gardens plucked complete from other countries and other eras was quite possibly the closest I will ever come to feeling like Alice in Wonderland come to life. You never know what magical sight waits around the next bend in the path.

pleasantly happy with newly renovated unit

stayed in a newly renovated unit and was clean, neat and tidy. the surroundings outside seem to be undergoing some upgrades, with the ground being uneven etc but it not bother us. the unit is well insulated for winter and comfortable beds :)

POSITIVES: Rooms were a great size. Heat pump was good. Towels changed daily. Great parking. NEGATIVES: Room is not cleaned during the 4 night stay. Coffee & tea not replenished daily. TV! Unfortunately you have to use your own personal logins to watch the apps on tv, otherwise nothing!

appreciate the sign with picture of reception. hours listed are different to hours on Expedia but they do answer the ph number. tv wouldn't connect, but then I had multiple options come up n it seemed to be neighbours tvs. oven stove top could do with fixing but it still worked and we loved that we could cook n stay in before a long day out the next day. initially loud and rowdy neighbours but it all quietened down by a reasonable time n heard none of the main road traffic. all in all, would stay again. shower was also great, pressure n heat wise. Uber to main mall $10 or a 45min walk. or bus is across the road.

Roomy, reasonably new unit. All we needed for our visit to Hamilton. The motel is a mixture of older and newer units so I cannot give any thoughts on the older part.

The staff were extremely responsive and accommodating. While the cabin was very clean and comfortable, it was lacking in finishing touches. No bed covers, no bins, no tea towels, mismatched pillowcases. Simple improvements would make this a 4 star place.

Did a man design the new rooms? No mirror and no place to hang any clothes. Shower though was excellent 👌 But room was tiny. Smaller than a Hong Kong apartment.

We couldn’t stay as it’s closed down due to liquidation. Very sad we were not notified until we got there late at night and in the pouring rain. Tried to call but no response yet a week before all seemed ok when I called. Shocking….

We had to look around and a staff had to make calls with the other staff / owner to check in and there were not clear instructions. The items such as tissue box, kitchen towel, and hair dryer were not provided.

Good for a last minute stay for one night, but a few things, the windows didn’t close fully because the handles were broken so it got cold and the shades weren’t attached properly so they completely fell off, even with the bathroom window unable gone closed it was still too humid in there the mirror didn’t clear up and the toilet paper was damp as it didn’t have a holder, also the tv placement was inconvenient as it was right above the head of the bed. Otherwise good stay, the AC kept us warm, plenty of parking and good price.
