"This is definitely a tranquil haven set amongst a city of contrasts. The team were attentive went out of their way to ensure my stay was relaxing, enjoyable and any needs/requests were promptly and efficiently dealt with. The Lodge is set within a lush garden landscape and rooms and common areas are clean and beautifully appointed. Breakfast was home cooked, generous & delicious. There was an option to also have cereals, fruit, cheese, yoghurt (buffet). York Lodge is a wonderful base from which to explore Harare and surrounding areas/visit friends & family if on holiday here. Did not have dinner here as out with family most of the stay. There are a couple of restaurants within a walking distance if you want variety e.g. Ella the Garden and Victoria 22 - as well as grocery store Pick n Pay and a Thai takeout food. There is also Gava Restaurant (a short drive away if you want a casual, cultural experience than a luxury restaurant and to try authentic Zimbabwean food such as traditional dishes like sadza, beef stew, oxtail, and peanut butter rice I would totally recommend York Lodge as a central base to anybody making a visit to Harare "
"I had loverly stay. Facilities well presented, clean and maintained. Great quality food.
I would like to say a BIG THANK YOU to all staff - outstanding personalised work."
"The property is located in very quiet area, but poor amenities like No stable electricity, Poor WiFi etc so check out to another place before my time was due."
"I recently stayed at this wonderful property in Harare, and it exceeded all my expectations. From the moment I arrived, the atmosphere was welcoming, the property was beautifully maintained, and everything was clean, comfortable, and thoughtfully arranged. Harare has many accommodation options, but places with great service and comfort really stand out.
The rooms were spacious, spotless, and very comfortable, making it the perfect place to relax after a busy day in the city. The environment felt peaceful and secure, and the facilities were excellent.
A special shout-out to Vimbai, who was an incredible guest coordinator. She went above and beyond to make sure everything ran smoothly during my stay. Her friendliness, professionalism, and attention to detail truly made the experience memorable. It’s rare to find someone so dedicated to ensuring guests feel welcome and well taken care of.
If you’re visiting Harare and want a place that combines comfort, great hospitality, and attentive service, I highly recommend staying here. Thanks again to the entire team—and especially Vimbai—for making my trip so enjoyable. I will definitely be back"
"This place is running a bait and switch operation. We booked a room for 5 people, since the listing said there were 5 beds and it could accommodate up to 10 people. But when our group of 5 (2 adults and 3 children) showed up, they were told they get 1 room with 1 bed. Our group was then repeatedly harassed until we paid for another room in order to not have all 5 in 1 bed. So they basically sell you one room, but then make you pay twice the cost - a classic bait and switch.
Even if it had been at the original price, it would have been a terrible property. Their self catering doesn’t have any cooking equipment in it. The staff entered the cottage without announcing themselves, and they aren’t flexible to clients needs (eg making breakfast for a certain time). There aren’t adequate towels for a double room, and after the first night we didn’t have housekeeping. The staff isn’t trained and they use the lodge as if it’s their private residence.
To sum up, the staff seemed angry we were there, since when clients come it’s like we are disturbing their privacy.
So between being forced to pay double to a terrible property and poor staff, this is by far the worst experience we have had in our more than 30 years of travel to Zimbabwe. AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS - any other place is better than this!"
