"I would stay here again! We booked a last minute room for two week nights. Pleasant reception and attention by Baden! We bought a bottle of lovely white wine and a couple of beers from the nice selection in the lobby. Two stemmed wine glasses were in the sitting area of our room which had a large balcony with sliding screen door, chairs and a table where we could hear the "Big Creek" run. Lovely grounds, courtyard with fun toys which was kept tidy, and The Oak restaurant where we dined on our first evening, thanks to nabbing one of two later dinner reservations. We enjoyed pre-dinner drinks in the stylish comfy lounge where we had a great conversation with another couple, then were delivered to our table early for an upscale dinner with top notch service.
Having said that, there were some hiccups which we informed upon checkout; concern was shown and notes were taken. 1) We did not want for hot water on demand. While the shower had nice hardware (hand held included) it was neary impossible to find a non-scalding temperature. The sink faucet handles were loose so water would not flow unless the bases were held while turning the handles. 2) Front desk replaced the battery in the electric fireplace remote, but it still would not turn on. 3) We had to dispatch several insects in the bathroom (well, we were in the forest) and 4) the structure is older, so folks walking in the room above our bed sounded as though they might fall through.
Even so, I adore this lodge!"
"We did not bring our dog but this a true doggie hotel. Rooms were furnished with a large dog bed and bowls. Dogs were well behaved and everywhere. A rooms have a balcony and the inn has underground parking. The Inn had a nice courtyard and a variety of bottles of wine were available for a reasonable price. The Inn is on the main street of town and very accessible to shops and restaurants."
"The Mountain House is unique. It is truly an old house that has been modified to include rooms and a restaurant. There are about 8-10 rooms in the Main House where we stayed. There is a separate building called the Bunkhouse out back.
The room was clean but very small and tight. More so that I thought was possible but we got used to it. The air conditioner and TV worked well but the window shades were hard to operate. Our room had a queen-sized bed and it was nice.
The biggest challenge was that there is no elevator so one has to walk up steep stairs carrying your own luggage to get to your room. Fortunately, Sarah was there when we arrived and she helped. But the hotel really does need to have a strong person on duty at arrival time and departure time to carry luggage to the room. We had to make two trips up and down the stairs. The parking is scarce. Only a few spots out back. On one occasion we had to park out on the street. There is no breakfast served during the week but they do make available coffee and banana bread. The staff, especially Sarah, was very helpful. The house is just across the street from all the shops on Main Street so the location is great. That is one reason we chose to stay there. Now that I know the details of the facility I would plan my luggage more carefully if I stayed there again. We did not have a chance to try out the restaurant."
