"I have never seen a hotel like this with laminate flooring instead of carpet. It was apparently newly remodeled but still had lots of signs of age like rust on the metal at the bottom of the bathroom door and etc. The first room I was placed in had such a strong odor of cleaner like pine sol that I had to ask for another room, which the clerk was very nice about and I was placed in a larger room still on the first floor. The room was clean but the smell of cleaner was not so overpowering. The bathroom has an enormous tub with whirlpool jets. Taking a shower in there was odd. I was about to go to an event and needed a went to iron my shirt, found the ironing board and no iron. I called to the front desk and was told they had ordered the irons but they did not have them yet. The complimentary breakfast was basically the typical waffle setup and some muffins. All in all it was a good value for the price and after the remodel is complete it might be better. "
"It’s fine for a cheap night stay passing through, but wouldn’t plan on staying longer.
Bedding had burn wholes in it. Towels are stained and thin while it has been renovated there is already build up on the baseboards. Has a burner to cook but nothing to cook with.
Seems like it’s more of a long term rental stay of locals "
"My family and I were in town for a funeral and stayed here a couple of nights. The hotel is currently undergoing renovation. I think we stayed on the renovated side. The room was spacious. The beds were a decent size and very comfortable. What really made our experience was the service received from the staff. Everyone we encountered was very polite, and welcoming. Don was exceptionally helpful, accommodating, and hospitable. He helped us out when our keys were malfunctioning, and ended up giving us an overview of the hotel. Letting us know about the area, and dining options. Don was very welcoming, helpful, & funny, and made us feel like family. The woman who checked us in, was also very helpful and provided dining recommendations. "
Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites Conover (Hickory Area) by IHG
6/10 Okay
"Breakfast was good. Desk staff was friendly.
Room was nice but had some issues. The AC unit was right by the bed so you either had to be hot or have air blowing right in your face all night.
Toilet and tub was unusually small. You can't take a real bath with 5 inches of water.
The housekeeping staff did bare minimum. Didn't empty bedroom trash or turn down the linens. Toiletries and coffee stuff were not replaced etc.
Overall it was average. Not what I expected for the cost. "
"The room was very clean. The staff was very helpful and friendly. We were able to check in earlier than planned since the room was available. Breakfast was very good. They had plenty of hot and cold options. The area is safe and the parking was eady and safe"
"Staff was really excellent, but 2 items reminded me why this is $70/night. The TV is incredibly complicated to make function, even when a helpful staff member was driving the remote! Second, the breakfast: seriously, it’s coffee, orange juice (apple wasn’t working) a handful of mini-muffins and a half loaf of white bread. Such little effort was put into it, “free breakfast” should not be advertised at all. "
