"Our stay at St. Mary’s Lodge became something we will never forget—not because of the beautiful surroundings, but because of the incredible kindness and compassion shown by the staff.
During our stay, I experienced a medical emergency in the middle of the night and had to be transported by ambulance to an emergency hospital about 45 minutes away. My wife went with me, and with no transportation available in the area, the hotel manager, Erin, personally came to pick us up and bring us back to the lodge.
When we were preparing to check out, my condition suddenly worsened. I developed severe chills and was shaking violently, requiring another trip to the emergency room. After further evaluation, I had to be transferred to another hospital nearly two hours away for additional testing.
Without hesitation, Erin volunteered to drive my truck to the second hospital because my wife was not comfortable driving it. Even more amazingly, despite it being late at night, she stayed with us at the hospital to make sure we were okay before returning to the lodge early the next morning.
We are deeply grateful to Erin and the entire St. Mary’s Lodge team for going far beyond what anyone could expect. Their compassion, generosity, and genuine care during one of the most difficult experiences we’ve ever faced meant the world to us. Thank you for taking such wonderful care of us. We will never forget your kindness."
"Quiet and cozy just like the sign on the wall inside our cabin. No issues, very clean and spacious. Would stay again and highly recommend for the $$."
"This is an amazing historic hotel right outside of glacier national. The Front desk staff were awesome; college kids from Lexington Kentucky. The on-site restaurant is fabulous. Joe can fix you up some great huckleberry cocktails. It’s a perfect place to stay when you’re in the area."
"⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Under Canvas Glacier completely exceeded every expectation! From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel so welcome. Every single person we interacted with was polite, friendly, and genuinely happy to help, which made the entire experience even more enjoyable.
The location is absolutely perfect—close enough to Glacier National Park to make exploring easy, while still feeling peaceful and surrounded by nature. Waking up to the fresh mountain air and stunning scenery was something I’ll never forget.
This is the perfect blend of real camping and luxury. You still get the authentic camping experience—falling asleep to the sounds of nature, cozying up by the fire, and disconnecting from the busy world—but with all the glamorous touches that make it incredibly comfortable. The tents are beautiful, the beds are cozy, and all the amenities you need are provided… although I’d definitely recommend bringing a loofa! 😂
If you’ve ever wanted to experience camping without giving up comfort, Under Canvas Glacier is the place to do it. I would absolutely stay here again and recommend it to anyone looking for a unique, relaxing, and unforgettable getaway!"
"Stayed here for 2 nights in July with family.
Positives: Gorgeous setting. Swiss-like esthetics. Loved that you could walk to the trails and not worry about finding parking before beginning our hike(s). Ate at the lounge restaurant and it was very good. Also thrilled to have a coffee shop, snack shop available. If able to, go to dinner one night at the Swiftcurrent Motor Inn restaurant (just a couple minutes away driving) then walk down to Fishcap Lake (nicknamed Moose Lake). It’s about a 5-10 min easy walk. We visited this lake 3 times and saw moose 2 of those times. When visiting after dinner around 7, it was like the animals were paid actors. Deer all around, birds, beaver swimming, and a huge, bull moose. One of the highlights of the trip!
Negatives: a small hike is necessary to get to the parking lot. There is not dedicated guest parking, so during the day the lot fills fast due to others not staying at Many Glacier wanting to use the easily accessible trails. During the day, it is hard to find parking. It was not a problem when we left for dinner and returned in the evening.
Our room had a balcony but the bench and floorboards were covered in bird poop so not really usable. Shower was tiny and room definitely was warm for sleeping with no AC (but expected—it is July at a national park lodge, afterall)"
"Apgar has a casual, almost campground feel to it that I really loved. The lake and the views were breathtaking. We had plenty of room to sleep all 5 of us—our only issue was 1 bathroom and little space to get ready for the day. There were a couple of days that were rather warm reaching 90 degree temps but mornings and evenings were cool enough that the room was okay for sleeping without AC.
We had 1 hiccup where we returned to our room after a day of hiking and none of our key cards worked. We were traveling with 2 other families and the same was true for them. But the staff were on it and immediately fixed the issue.
If able, bring a camp/beach chair or picnic blanket for the beach area and definitely water shoes or sandals. The beach/lake bed is stone/rock."
