"Our stay at Hotel Tortuguero Beachfront was completely unacceptable, and the lack of customer service made it worse. We booked 2 rooms for 3 nights and requested multiple times prior to arrival that they be together due to my son in one room and my husband and I in another. They weren’t. We waited 45+ minutes at check-in while staff tried to fix it—well past check-in time. The first room had a leaking AC that soaked our belongings while we were out. No apology. We were moved, but the new room had no hot water for 2 nights. We reported it immediately—nothing was fixed despite being told otherwise. We asked to check out early and be refunded for the unused night—denied. We requested a manager daily and were told he wasn’t available. No follow-up. The property itself was a mess: loud dogs at 5 AM, staff children running unsupervised, broken fixtures, empty food trays, long waits, no “Do Not Disturb” signs, paper-thin walls, and a non-working safe. Staff said only the owner could help—but he never responded. Even after follow-ups post-stay, we were told nothing could be done “due to policy.” Overpriced, filthy, and poorly managed. Avoid at all costs."

"The staff was amazing! Like unbelievably amazing! Greeted at the dock, luggage taken care of, greeted with fresh watermelon juice, chef cooked such delicious meals (dessert included), housekeeping cleaned 2-3 times a day, cooper hooked us up with tours, everything was great and relaxing. 3 minute walk to the beach, 5 minute walk to the national park, 5 minute walk to the village. "

"It’s a little but of work to get to mawamba, but once you’re there it’s quite pleasant. The pool area is A+ and the breakfast is too. The walk into town is easy and the number of places to get dinner is plentiful. Beware the birds are noisy but that’s nature at its best! "

"Carey Lodge es un sitio sencillo y muy tranquilo, ideal si buscas algo básico en Tortuguero. La limpieza del cuarto era buena, pero la experiencia se vio afectada porque no nos dejaron toallas ni papel de baño; tuvimos que movernos por nuestra cuenta para conseguirlos. Está un poco alejado del embarcadero principal, lo cual es bueno para el silencio pero requiere caminar más. Mi mayor recomendación es no reservar por aplicaciones como Expedia si el precio se ve elevado, ya que terminamos pagando el triple del valor real del lugar. Si vas solo por una noche, cumple su función, pero asegúrate de que el precio sea justo y de revisar que tengan los suministros listos al hacer el check-in."

"Room was available earlier than check in. It was a little on the small side, ok for two people with minimal luggage for a couple of days but we struggled for room as we had 6 items of luggage (this was part of a 6 week trip). We managed but a little more room would have been helpful. "

"These rooms are a group of six that sit on the beach with only a short stretch of jungle with a nice path to the beach. Natalia was extremely friendly, informative, and even came by the first morning to check that everything was going well. This is a simply furnished room with very good air conditioning and modern bathroom and shower. Free breakfast, fruit, yogurt, and coffee was delicious. I don’t remember the name of the woman who served us breakfast each morning, but she was attentive, pleasant, and an obviously industrious young woman. This is away from the hustle and bustle of Main Street and I would definitely consider staying here again the next time I am in Tortuguero !"
