We were never informed of power cuts and its corresponding impact in a room with small fan and the inability to open windows due to plenty of mosquitoes and other insects.
The whole family had an awful night and were dumbfounded to learn that they have a generator and simply forgot to put it on. This is appalling customer service.
No indication of depth sign around a swimming pool which plunges up to 2 metres and you can just imagine the risk for the customers
Customer care zero
The hotel is in a quiet and relaxed environment. The room where we slept was spacious. The gentleman who was a receptionist during the night was very helpful and friendly. We really enjoyed our stay.
The plumbing needs definite attention. You either cooked or froze, no in between. The hair dryer cord was looped though 2 holes in the closet, making it impossible to use and no mirror was anywhere near the dryer and plugs in the room.
Valverde Country Hotel was perfect for my time in South Africa. The rooms were furnished with lovely antiques and the gardens were immaculately groomed. A room on the second floor has the best internet connection. The restaurant offers a nice selection and happily meets special dietary requests. There is no AC for hot months; but that goes for most hotels in SA. I plan to stay again in December.
Valverde has always made a special effort to help us celebrate our anniversary and make it special. They go the extra mile to make you feel welcome.

Overall good value, but don't expect a retreat
The garden of the hotel was fabulous and we had a great service at the restaurant. 10 points to our chef Temba for that. He was very friendly and professional.
The hotel was booked for weddings every day and this could be a problem if you're looking for a silent retreat in the countryside. The dwelling rooms have a thatched roof, so you can forget about noise insulation. The noise from the road nearby was bad at times. The rooms were also quite dark and I would love to see an option for a brighter lamp. The rooms were nice and tidy, but there seemed to be a problem with the plumbing in the bathroom as the bathroom smelled like sewerage.
I would recommend the burgers at the restaurant of this place. They were of excellent value.

Short stay
If you looking for a quiet get away just make sure you contact the hotel and find out if there is a function taking place. I had a room near a wedding venue and heard the whole event. Luckily I was there for another function so was in my room for a short while and when I got back the weeding was over.
We were really impressed from the get-go with showing up and the customer service of the staff. The hotel and grounds are very beautiful. Location really good place for short trips to the Lion Park or Sandton area, which has a lot of stuff to do. Looks like a great place to go road biking and pricing was really good.
The Hotel advertises free Wifi. During our visit I asked three times for help getting the Wifi to work in our room. Never ended up working, they did give me a wireless device to try, but that didn't work either. Our shower and sink knobs would shock us when the ground was wet. We ended up having to use towels to turn on and off the water. The mattress we slept on was thin, not very good quality, and slept poorly. A lot of Ants invading our room. We did book last minute so I'm assuming we were probably in their lesser quality rooms.
