This Lake Tahoe beach town is famous for its clear blue waters, scenic mountain surroundings, free cultural events and summer and winter sports.

On the north shore of Lake Tahoe is the laid-back and picturesque town of Kings Beach. Enjoy outdoor adventure year-round, from watersports and leisurely beach walks to hiking and skiing in the nearby mountains. The town takes its name from Joe King, a card shark who won ownership of the town in a game of poker.

The focal point of Kings Beach is the Kings Beach State Park, a picturesque beach park that stretches along the north banks of Lake Tahoe. The sandy, south-facing beach is one of the warmest swimming areas of Lake Tahoe and is popular with visitors and local families. Find picnic areas, changing facilities and a children’s playground. Marvel at the spectacular views of the lake and snow-capped mountains. Watersports enthusiasts can rent kayaks, paddleboats and jet skis or enjoy a bird’s eye view of the town on a parasailing tour. Watch free open-air concerts on the beach from June to August.

Scattered along the town’s main boulevard are bars and restaurants, boutiques, street vendors and markets. Shop for curios and handicrafts at the Fine Arts Fair and Arts and Crafts Fair. The fairs take place during the summer months at the Kings Beach Plaza. Check out the art exhibitions at the North Tahoe Event Centre, which showcases the work of local artists and photographers. Sample fresh produce and artisanal foods at the summer Kings Beach Farmers Market.

Enjoy adventure sports and discover Lake Tahoe’s mountain landscapes at nearby Northstar California Resort, set on Mt. Pluto. Come in the summer to ride chairlifts through the mountain forest, hike nature trails or play 18 holes on a mountain golf course. When the snow falls you can ski and snowboard on almost 100 trails and try other winter sports, including snow-tubing and snowshoeing.

Reach Kings Beach by flying to Reno-Tahoe International Airport and then rent a car to get to here and visit other areas of Lake Tahoe. While visiting Kings Beach, rent a bike and explore the trails that lead through the scenic North Tahoe Regional Park.
