Köngäs, is a village in Kittilä on the banks of River Ounasjoki. Some of the villagers earn a living at the Suurikuusikko gold mine, while others are in more traditional work: agriculture, forestry and reindeer herding.
Köngäs is one of the few villages that avoided being burnt down during the Lapland War. It has beautiful wooden buildings, old and new, and it is only six miles from Levi Fell.
The landscapes are dominated by River Ounasjoki and the white-water rapids, great for fishing. There are also good fishing spots on Lakes Kivijärvi and Munajärvi nearby.
