Phenomenal hospitality and unbelievably good food. Comfortable quiet room, secluded and tranquil, lovely views over the lagoon and great bird watching. Beautiful pool and easy tuk-tuk ride to a very good beach and turtle conservation facility.

Jewel in the crown so far as I’m concerned!

A stunning family-run guesthouse with beautiful pool set in lush gardens. The food is exceptional, authentically Sri Lankan and the best I have eaten in Sri Lanka. Several languages are spoken and the owners so helpful in arranging any help needed ; communications and guidance are very good. I did not want to leave this oasis of relaxation and hope to return.

I had an absolutely fantastic time at Sankarest Villa. Right from the start i felt right at home at their lovely place. Sanka and his family did a stellar job to make this holiday a very special one for me, one i will think fondly about for many years to come. The food Sankas mom and their staff prepared for me almost every night was nothing short of incredible. With every meal there was something new and tasty, something i had never seen eaten before. I highly recommend eating there. Almost everything they prepare is locally sourced and always super fresh. They always had great tips what do do or where to visit, and quickly organized the stuff i needed some assistance with. There is plenty to do and see in the area, but Kosgoda itself is a very quiet village with an absolutely amazing tropical beach with golden sand you have entirely for yourself. Overall i highly recommend staying at Sannkarest Villa. I absolutely loved it there and hope I'm lucky enough to return one day. Thank you all for your exceptional hospitality!

We’ll be back

We chose our stay at Sankarest Villa with the idea of a complete rest in mind after several days traveling around the island. We were not disappointed. From the minute we arrived we were warmly greeted by the family that run the Villa. Over the next four days were able to spend time relaxing by the great pool in the very lovely garden as well as take local trips organised by the family in their own Tuk Tuk. We chose to eat at the Villa everyday enjoying the more than delicious food cooked by Sunita and her team who accommodated our dietary requirements perfectly. Sanka, the house manager, was constantly attentive to any enquiries or needs. He was informative about local places of interest including arranging the best massage that we experienced in Sri Lanka. We spent enjoyable and entertaining times chatting with Kohnie who also ensured that we had everything that we wanted. The location was perfect for us situated yards away from a beautiful solitary beach but also near transport. The Villa was very well priced for our spotless accommodation. There was a warm family atmosphere but we also enjoyed the privacy that the accommodation afforded in terms of size and space. Sankarest has many returning visitors. We hope to be amongst them in the future. Thank you also to Thamale, Buba, Hailey and Selena.

Wundervolles Guesthouse direkt am nördlichen Ortseingang von Kosgoda. Sehr freundliche Familie, fantastisches Essen zu fairen Preisen. Sanka, der Chef, bietet auch Touren an. Bahnhof und Bushaltestelle fußläufig zu erreichen. Schöner Strand wenige Minuten zu Fuß entfernt.

Wir waren für 3 Nächte in der Unterkunft und werden auf jeden Fall wiederkommen. Wir haben nichts zu beanstanden, das Zimmer war sauber und schön, die Terrasse war riesig und lädt abends zum verweilen ein, der Pool ist sehr sauber, genauso wie die ganze Anlage, die liebevoll gepflegt wird. Das Frühstück lässt keine Wünsche offen und alle Angestellten, sowie der Besitzer sind sehr freundlich und geben einen das Gefühl willkommen zu sein.

Es handelt sich um eine schöne Villa in der es 3 Gästezimmer gibt und der Rest von Sankas Familie bewohnt wird. Es herrscht eine sehr familiäre und freundliche Atmosphäre. Das Essen und die Gastfreundschaft von Sanka, Tamari, Conni und dem Rest der Familie und des Teams waren erstklassig, die Zimmer sauber, großzügig, geschmackvoll eingerichtet und gut klimatisiert. Am sauberen Pool konnte man auf den Liegen unter Palmen oder Sonnenschirmen wunderbar chillen. Sanka bietet verschiedene interessante Ausflüge an, ist dabei aber nicht aufdringlich. Der Ort Kosgoda bietet kaum etwas, was aber nicht problematisch ist, da alle 1-2 Minuten der Bus Richtung Colombo oder Galle fährt. Das Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis von Hotel und Abendessen ist sehr gut. Vielen Dank für die schönen Tage Anja und Jörg

Underbart, familjärt boende med otrolig mat

Jag och min familj (sambo, 2 barn, 1 och 4 år) tillbringade fem nätter på Sankarest Villa under vår 7 veckors långa resa på Sri Lanka. Sankarest Villa var det bästa boendet under vår resa! Vi åt de flesta måltiderna där eftersom maten är otrolig! Så smakrik, varierande och generösa portioner. Frukosten som ingick var fantastisk, stor och varierande, enbart maten skulle räcka för att rekommendera detta boende och ge det fem stjärnor. Dessutom har det en superfin pool och mysig trädgård med vackra blommor. Familjen som driver stället är hjälpsamma och väldigt trevliga, vi kände oss hemma direkt och hade gärna stannat längre. De hjälpte till med allt och mannen äger en tuktuk och tog med oss på utflykt. Rummen var stora, fräscha och städades varje dag. Vi hade en rymlig och härlig terrass att koppla av på. Lugnt och avskilt område nära till stranden. Rekommenderar detta varmt.

Sanka und seine Familie waren sehr nette Gastgeber. Unser Zimmer in der Sankarest Villa war groß, schön eingerichtet und sehr sauber. Außerdem verfügt die Villa über einen sehr schönen Pool und Garten, in dem man gut relaxen kann. Wir waren 6 Nächte hier und haben jeden Morgen ein etwas anderes und leckeres Frühstück erhalten. Wenn man möchte, kann man auch zu Abend essen, das Wunschgericht wird dann frisch für einen zubereitet. Die nächstgrößere Stadt mit vielen Restaurants ist ca. 20 Minuten entfernt, Sanka hat auch angeboten uns mit dem Tuktuk dorthin zu fahren. Der Strand ist nur 3 Minuten zu Fuß entfernt und sehr ruhig mit genügend Stellen zum Baden. Insgesamt hat es uns in der Sankarest Villa sehr gut gefallen und wir können die Unterkunft nur empfehlen, wenn man entspannte Tage verbringen möchte.

Absolutely perfect! We enjoyed our stay here so much that we came back and spend the first and the last days of our vacation at Sankarest. The proximity to CMB airport makes this place great to start and end your vacation (2h from the airport). Sanka and his family are amazing people and did everything they could to make us happy. Sanka drove us around with his TukTuk, showed and explained, answered all sorts of questions and showed us a sea turtle laying eggs at night. His mother Sunita cooked the best food we could find in 5 weeks Sri Lanka. She even took us to the market, found exactly the kind of fish we asked for our little daughter and showed us how to cook her wonderful curries. She went out of her way to make our little picky eater daughter happy, preparing her special dishes most of the time. The beds are comfy, rooms nicely furnished, they do basic cleaning every day. We especially loved the great and clean pool and beautiful relaxing garden. The place is very close to the beach (4 min walk). It is beautiful but not very good for swimming but there are plenty more beaches you can quickly reach by TukTuk. Kosgoda is a quiet area which was exactly why we chose to stay here. You can easily reach the touristic areas by TukTuk or bus in 15 min. There are plenty of things to see and do in the area. You can hear the street and the train however, if you close the door and windows at night it wont keep you from sleeping. We will definitely come back here on our next visit!

Sankarest villa

We spent 5 great days in the pension. Despite the initial embarrassment, this is not a classic beach holiday, we appreciated the excellent food and service including the comfort and tranquility of the pool and the lovely garden.

Wunderbarer Aufenthalt im Sankarest!

Wunderbares Guesthouse nahe dem Strand Kosgoda (2 Min. zu Fuß), noch tollere Gastfreundschaft, Sanka und das Team machen alles möglich. Das landestypische Essen ist außerordentlich schmackhaft und authentisch, und wir sind immerhin schon insgesamt 6 Monate in Sri Lanka! Rice and curry ist eben nicht immer Rice and Curry, sondern da gibt es offensichtlich noch eine Steigerung wie hier im Sanka Rest. Auch die Meeresfrüchte sind hervorragend zubereitet, und bitte das Fish Sandwich nicht vergessen! Unser Zimmer war sehr gemütlich und vor allem gab es keine Moskitos darin! We come back! Wir hatten 2 Abende versucht, auf eigene Faust am Strand in der Nacht Schildkröten zu finden, was gar nicht einfach ist. In der 3. Nacht hat uns Sanka der Eigentümer eine Nachricht gegeben, dass direkt 2 Minuten vom Guesthouse entfernt eine gelandet ist und wir konnten so die Eiablage hautnah erleben. Ein toller Service, danke Sanka!

Amazing Haven

Amazing family run haven with exceptional friendly service; minutes from a stunningly wild beach. Lovely swimming pool set in exquisite gardens. Add to this the best Sri Lankan food we've had in our month long trip and you have unbeatable place to stay. Cannot recommend Sankarest highly enough. Many, many thanks to Sunita, Sanka, Surangi, Thamale and Koni fot making our stay so memorable.

Останавливались вдвоем на две недели в феврале 2019.Все очень хорошо.Отель содержит семья.Все очень стараются чтобы обеспечить достойный отдых постояльцам.Много живности вокруг: обезьяны, попугаи,бурундуки,черепахи выходят откладывать яйца по ночам на пляж.Из минусов-отдаленность от цивилизации, пляж из за волнения океана не всегда пригоден для плавания, но хозяева обеспечивают собственным транспортом ,за дополнительную плату, для поездок в Бентоту на пляж и шопинг.Очень дорогой алкоголь.Запасайтесь для кого есть в этом необходимость.Питание достойное , но достаточно дорого.

Best place to stay in Sri Lanka

We had an absolutely fantastic 5 days at Sanka Rest. The place is wonderful and the food is definitely the best we tasted in the whole of Sri Lanka. Everyone, Koni, Sunita, Sanka Thamali, Surangi and Sameen were so kind and helpful it felt like they were family! The rooms are huge and nicely decorated with lovely seating areas outside. The pool is spotless and refreshing set in a lovely garden. The property is really well situated one minutes walk from a great beach and you can be in town in less than five minutes by tuk tuk or bus. The tuk tuk is on site and driven by Sanka or Sameen. We originally booked for 3 days and ended up staying for 5 days and it would have been more but it was at the end of our month away. Everything about this place is brilliant,the food is yummy, the setting wonderful and the really friendly hosts - thank you again.

Amazing People and Place !!!

Wonderful people and nice place full of friendship and smiles from morning to evening. Food in a restaurant is a poetry of flavors. Certainly we will come back :)

Das Team um Koni, Sunita, Sanka und Surangi ist herzlich, offen und macht alles damit man sich wohl fühlt. Das Essen ist vorzüglich. Der kleine Pool ist sauber und traumhaft im Garten gelegen. Wir hatten ein Zimmer im oberen Stock und somit einen tollen Sitzplatz mit schönen antiken Möbeln nur für uns. Wer eher ein ruhiges Hotel in familiärer Führung sucht ist hier genau richtig. Wir können nichts aussetzen und werden auf unserer nächsten Sri Lanka Reise bestimmt wieder hier buchen! Können das Hotel nur weiter empfehlen - es lohnt sich auf jeden Fall!

Sankarest is the perfect guesthouse with the best food on the island. Rooms are stylish, immaculately clean and arranged to ensure guests have privacy on the spacious upper and lower verandas. The pool is as clean as the guesthouse and surrounded by beautiful plants. The beach is just down the lane. The hosts are fluent in English and German. They are there to assist and they take the time to answer questions.They have a tuktuk for local trips or for a day trip to Galle. We took a taxi directly from the airport and used this guesthouse to recover from jetlag...and then stayed four days. If you are not looking for a spot to relax, I would still recommend having dinner there (call in advance).

A quiet Gem on the Pearl of the Indian Ocean

My wife and I stayed at Sanka Rest for four nights. It is a family owned and operated B&B with beautiful terraces and a nice pool. The staff is very attentive without being overbearing or intrusive. They are happy and able to help with local or longer distance travel as will as shopping and sightseeing. They are always happy to help, but we never felt pressured. The location is about a three to five minute walk away from a long stretch of undeveloped beach line which is famous for its sea turtle nesting. The beach is wonderful to walk along and enjoy, but is not suitable for swimming due to the high amount of rock at the shoreline. Swimmable beaches are, however, just a short tuk tuk drive away. The B&B also operates a restaurant for which you must book for the evening prior to 3pm the day you wish to dine. This is so they may go to the market to purchase everything fresh and make it to order. Had we had the opportunity, my wife and I would have eaten there every night. The menu is broad enough, and the food is that good!

Ruhiges, persönliches Hotel mit dem besten Curry

Alles war super! Haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt. Das Zimmer war groß und sauber. Der Pool klein aber fein in einem schönen Garten gelegen :) Der Strand ist nicht zum baden geeignet, was uns aber nicht gestört hat. Dafür ist er sehr idyllisch und naturbelassen. Das Rice and Curry zum Abendessen war das Beste, dass wir auf unserer Reise finden konnten ;)! Wir würden definitiv wieder kommen.
